That's why we can't detect aliens they gave up RF signals billions of years ago.
We have just started to figure out this stuff and we have a long way to go.
I wish I was about 25 years younger.This shit is going to take off.

the kind of communication it's talking about requires a medium, like fibre optic cable, to transmit discrete units of light - as we currently understand it it's not possible to use it as a replacement for wireless wave transmission; maybe pulsed lasers or something in the future but even that would only work over line of sight and with limited range -

They know what we are capable of and stay away from us probably for good reason.
If you had a cage full of gorillas and one of them knew how to make a bomb and he forced the other gorillas through sexual slavery and a banana exploit economy to produce these bombs would you let any of those fuckers out ??? exactly . You would put a cage around the cage so they didnt have any way to even get help from the outside, very dangerous if one of them teaches another tribe of gorrila to make bombs and they ALL learn and start trying to fight against HUMANS and compete for food , obviously you don't want to share technology and secrets with these BEASTS they will just kill you all and maybe even themselvs

It would be more likely that a highly advanced civilization would be doing their version of METI(No, that's not a typo) as one of the methods to scan their surround galactic neighborhood for intelligent life, so they'd have advanced warning. Or to know where to send their gigantic death fleet to in order to destroy any and all potential future competition before it has a chance to get to a state of technological capability that might become a problem for them in the future. -

If we were sufficiently advanced we'd almost certainly recede into a simulation or destroy ourselves for lulz; aliens would have to have developed profoundly differently to not fall into the same trap.
Maybe we are in a simulation; a hell we created for ourselves because we know we deserve it -
