around 5.8-6.0 for modest destruction and at least a 6.9 that the Loma Prieta did to San Francisco,Oakland and Santa Cruz which are 70 miles apart.
but it's a strange quake today because it was shallow which means it wasn't felt over a wide area. it has to do with both size and depth so not many people felt it as much in San Francisco or Oakland. I was driving so I didn't feel or see anything. but that's a pretty sizable quake in general. it would at best throw bottles of wine off a shelf and other produce. and people have been hurt or even killed with a Chimney falling on your head and that only takes like a 4.5 to do that. -
