the public view doesn't leak the IP address of the poster.
the fact that the username/passhash table was leaked would make it plausible that the account was used by someone else, maliciously (e.g. if your passhash is in an existing rainbow file)
cops would need to have the IP address used for each post to have a realistic chance of taking it to prosecution, which would be unlikely if it's really just shitposting. -

they probably have the entire database and a list and home address of every person that ever posted there -
2022-10-04 at 6:23 PM UTCI put my home address in my signature, except I gave the apartment number of my next door neighbor. I'm sitting pretty.

Simple as that. If you drop the DB there is a very good chance you'll get that info, which is why even if you're on a site that you are sure is not malicious, you need to take precautions to protect yourself.
Also once the cops got an IP they can subpoena all records related to the person that has tat IP assigned.
its a shame that sys admins would put safety from harmless spammers above user data safety and security. -

it's a good thing that it's fake though, it means there's no reason to think the db was compromised more than was originally claimed by null.
also reduces the chance the cops have 'incriminating' evidence against Caroline Farrow (though I would not miss her manly face if it disappeared for two years, fuck she's a trog) -

the entire infrastructure has been re-jigged and the forum's already getting back to normal. i see some stability issues, but then i'm jumping through proxies and is probably related.
that fat troon with his army of balding hairy simps did not succeed.
it's pretty impressive, i'd have just said fuck it a long time ago. -

The forum culture has been looking more like miserable UKIP-tier boomers, alongside kids and retards groomed to believe they just 'pointing and laughing', even when there's nothing much to laugh at.
Most of the light-hearted stuff was gone, because it was just too much effort to post. Whatever remained was vitriolic shit from people you wouldn't even want to drink with, and the occasional bit of worthwhile news in e.g. the Russia/Ukraine threads.
I wonder what it would cost to set up a proper ISP? Like proper peering on a proper exchange (NYIIX, LINX, etc).
Any ideas? -

maybe you could set up a company and rent out some rack space at a datacentre, configure routing, BGP and shit there so you don't have to run your own cable? would have to co-locate so they can't just get your hardware kicked out of the datacentre.
I don't understand why the ISP would be the failure point though, is this the upstream provider? the owner of the IP range or something? historically they only drop service for abuse; if it's a content issue it's up to the host to resolve. -

I mean, cloudflare was "immediate threat to human life" or some shit like that. Seems like you could find a reason anywhere you care to look.
The only way to beat this, it seems, is to peer at an actual exchange - an actual fiber going to a NYIIX or LINX location.
I don't know of any actual free-speech respecting ISPs, maybe the demand is so low that it wouldn't even cover DDoS traffic.
ETA: So it looks like a 100GBE port would cost in the region of $25k per year at LINX plus co-location that they don't give prices for - I'd guess another $5k/year at most for a quarter rack (cheaper than premises and telecoms).
Not cheap, but not insane if there was shared interest. -
