The Russian leader said the main goal of the campaign continues to be “the liberation of the entire territory of Donbas” – the areas of eastern Ukraine including Donetsk and Luhansk that are largely Russian speaking.
“The plan is not subject to adjustment,” Putin said. “Our offensive operations in Donbas itself do not stop. They are going at a slow pace … The Russian army is occupying newer and newer territories.”
He accused Ukrainian forces of attempts to carry out “terrorist acts” and causing damage to Russian civilian infrastructure.
“We are really quite restrained in our response to this for the time being,” Putin said at a news conference on Friday. “If the situation continues to develop in this way, the response will be more serious.” -

2022-09-17 at 8:42 PM UTCHow the fuck has the red army still not even taken Donbass?
-
2022-09-17 at 9:09 PM UTCWell the "Russians talking about the country they're invading doing terrorism" thing is... not a good sign? Or at least I'm led to believe this tends to lead to significantly worse outcomes.

they took almost all of it before the Izium counteroffensive but didn't want to glass the positions the AFU were shelling from (up Avdeevka way) because they didn't have a solution to kill them without wiping out the civilian populations they're entrenched in. The bulk of the hardware used in the last two counteroffensives was kept in the civilian subway network until the offensive started and the soldiers were being trained in NATO states.
it doesn't help that the SMO is only like 100-150k men strong and the vast majority of that is engineers and support for the air force and standoff weapons; the majority of the direct fighting is done by the LDNR volunteers and Khadyrov's lunatics.
It seems to me they're re-evaluating their policy on collateral damage given the recent hits on power infrastructure and that dam but who knows
***oh yeah, the 'terrorist acts' he's referring to are assassinating public officials in the LDNR and cross-border shelling at Belgorod -

Yeah that sounds like Russia. Very concerned about shelling civilian positions. I mean, definitely not the kind of military to deliberately target hospitals. Extremely conscientious about collateral damage. Your insight here is 100% accurate and not at all cope. -

you know hospitals are among the strongest, most fortified buildings in any city right
they're always among the first to be taken over for military purposes -
2022-09-18 at 3:18 AM UTCThere is no way to reconcile "blows up hospitals constantly, at one point in Syria as many as 4 in under 12 hours" with "concern for civilians". Either those hospitals were targeted deliberately or were the result of indiscriminate bombing and shelling, neither of which really screams "oh no, we wouldn't want to wipe a bunch of civilians out, let's not shell the enemy position".
Like, what would Russia even be worried about to motivate such an order? Because it ain't concerne for human life. PR? lmao, its a bit late for that. Win or lose, those sanctions aren't going away any time soon. Putin's revanchist plan to return Eastern Bloc countries to Russian control in a post-Soviet world pretty much signed Russia's death warrant (whether anyone has the capacity or sincere desire to execute that warrant being another matter entirely). -

which ones? because there are videos of firing positions and torture rooms in several of them after they were retaken. -

When they get taken over, of course, all the sick and injured civilians they're treating magically get better and go home. Or no, let me guess, the Ukrainians and Syrians actually executed everyone first and buried the bodies out back to blame on the Russian who would never do that (Bucha was a total gay op you guys trust me). This is known. Indeed, the doctors stop coming to work and it just becomes a fortress populated by military forces. Ayup yup.
Don't be a retard. -

A maternity hospital is pretty much the *one* kind of hospital where kicking the civilians out is basically fine and the sensible decision to make for the safety of all the women who were in there. If that were the only hospital Russia had ever attacked, maybe you'd have a point. Way to pick cherries for your example, товарищ.
But even still: out of curiosity, who did the interview? -
2022-09-18 at 3:34 AM UTCwhy are you pretending that the wellbeing of the patients is of any concern to the people taking over?
-
2022-09-18 at 3:36 AM UTCSorry to be off topic but I read a thing yesterday in a discussion thread about ultimate forms of torture where the idea was
Basically to form fit a cement encasement around the person to where they can't move whatsoever, other than their head being exposed, and a hole for them to shit and piss through.
And then you just take them like that to the middle of nowhere, have a feeding tube, oxygen tube, etc in place to where you can keep them alive.
You don't talk to them you don't communicate in any way with them whatsoever just feed their tube and keep them alive
Give them lots of meth so they're totally jacked up but they literally cannot move any part of their body.
And then just do that for years and years and years. Lol
I think that's actually a pretty good one. Of course you could expound on it by dropping fire ants into the cracks or itching powder or whatever. Hundreds of ideas to make it even worse but at it's core, I think it's about as bad as it could ever get -

Why are you pretending that it's more likely that their fellow countrymen are more likely to show callous disregard for their health and wellbeing than the Russians? lmao
"Ok trust me you guys the Russians have a looooong history of bombing hospitals but there were only ever soldiers in the them (hospitalized patients in need of care were unhospitalized without regard for their health or wellbeing, coma patients summarily executed). They definitely didn't decide that the presence of military forces justified the attack despite the presence of civilians." <- this is literally your argument
