Wallmart do background checks too...the point is many don't.
You apply for 10 jobs...maybe 6 will do a background check...that means 4 accept your bullshit...verses all 10 rejecting you.
The last 2 companies I've worked for claimed to do background checks they don't.
When I worked for Compaq...#1 PC company at the time, they claimed to do 100% background checks....they only did 3 out of ever 10. A guy who worked for me turned out to be a double murderer.
They only "caught" him after doing a random background check a year after he'd already been working there...glad I was nice to him. -

My niece appeared in a Sears Canada advertisement a couple of years ago (even though she lives in England). She got paid $3000 for a 2 second clip of her.
ETA: Actually it's more like 7yrs ago now...time flies etc.
