    I just remember at my first meeting I didn't want to say anything. I sat in the back and when they asked if anyone was new or had 24 hours I didn't say anything. But this woman next to me had talked to me before the meeting and she kept encouraging me to raise my hand so I did and I got a silver coin.

    I went for about 6 months and I really liked it. I made sober friends and we'd go to dinner every Friday night. I never made it past the first step with my sponsor because I think I had a crush on her I didnt respect her or listen to her. Drank a lot of coffee and read a lot. It was both the happiest I've ever been and also the most lonely and not alive.

    I ended up breaking my sobriety because I was in a wedding and the guy was Cajun so they had a tradition of pulling a bottle of bourbon out of the ground and the whole wedding party took a shot. And then everyone was doing coke in her bedroom later and that was my real issue before I got sober. Went to a work event still coked out the next morning feeling like shit. After that I was sober another six months and then my friends convinced me to start drinking again. The rest is history you all know.

    That makes sense. Speaking of island nations, I am so glad I don't live in one. I'm too paranoid thinking I'd get swallowed by the ocean. Though I live in the Netherlands and it is pretty much a coastal country since it is not landlocked, but it is not entirely surrounded by water either. Scary to think about.
