My girlfriend thinks we should rent a car for a 6 hour drive

   A rental will cost us $500 and we don't plan on really driving anywhere once we get down there.
   I want to yell at her but it won't help.
   Instead I'll drive her around for 6 hours this weekend to prove a point.

   Last time I rented a car from Enterprise while my car was in the shop it was like $50 a day or so (and enterprise pick you up/drop you off).

   You're right. It wont, you are there as a provider for a husband and wife while they sort through their issues in their own ways and make life easier for them by helping out with the kids, paying the bills, handyman work, groceries, etc
