Are you suggesting I imagine paying taxes and in reality I didn't get a $4200 tax refund earlier this year? and the government just pay with money they magicked out of thin air??

Lol no...but a good majority of it is. It's relatively easy to follow the paper trail from collected property taxes to local government spending for example.
But where do you think all the income tax money etc is going if not to contribute to gov spending?
