Well ones this hispanic guy i was in detox before here, he loves smoking and in rehab we would collude to acquire more nicorette gum, normally I would be against this as two people doing nefarious things for the same prize in a closed environment results in me having less. HOWEVER I didn't really know how to go about manipulating people who only speak spanish (half the detox center) and he doesn't speak any english. So the spanish speakers were heavily influenced by him (They only give out 1 piece after each meal, 20 or so total people there tho, half of which don't ask for it unless manipulated and then give it to us [THE PEOPLE WHO PROPERLY DESERVE IT]. And since I can't talk spanish enough to convince anyone of anything and he speaks extremely bad english we became good friends.
Sometimes I would be very successful for awhile and get like 5-10 pieces and would just split them in half with him. He similarly would come up on a bunch (one time he had like a couple dozen that i think he took from the office when they blinked) and would cut his stock in half. We realized this was a boon and we have sophistication manipulation skills.
After detoxing (him from heroin, me from alcohol) he went to the rehab center (one of 4 they send you too), by luck alone, two days later I followed him to the same place. So through hand signals, the twenty words I wrote down in english = spanish, we now share a drawer of canteen with each other, I get money from the state, he gets money from his sister, we have all the cigarettes we can smoke, share espresso, and we never really have to use a translator but one time I had this Hispanic guy translate for me "I am glad I have a friend in you." and he gave me a hug.
We also play dominos and poker and conspire against staff and the spanish & english speakers for additional come ups.
