just moved 2 week old quail to the outside cages 75 of em, tomorrow we put 112 eggs in lockdown so they can hatch, lockdown is when you take them out of the egg turners and lay them on the bottom of the incubator to hatch out, should hatch around 80.
in 2 weeks we can try young quail for dinner,, I sure hope they are better than old quail,,
also I learned we cant get the cheep feed like we thought so raising a quail went from .50 to 2.00 each, yearly feed cost for 50 went from $450 to $975 and raising them to eating size is over a grand for 500, that means Id be better off buying 2 cows one to butcher now and one to feed for the summer and butcher late fall for the same money as raising 2000 quail.
2000 quail = out to about 650 lbs of edible meat and 2 cows = out to about1500 lbs of edible meat. you can keep quail fresher than beef cuz you can kill a few at a time but with cow you gotta keep it frozen or dry it and grind it into powder or make jerky .
powdered cow doesnt sound good to me
