   A lot of 4G phones will fall back to 2G for calls, depending on how your network is configured. 4G is great for fast data, but generally not so much for signal reliability. Of course it's more complex than that, there are a bunch of technical issues networks are too dumb to fix by themselves and there are a bunch of 4G bands which offer different experiences in different environments.
   
   And often your phone will connect on a congested band, but if you change the settings (assuming your device supports it) you can find a less congested band that gives you 10x the speed.
   
   4G is actually great once it is working right. A lot of the shittiness about it is networks being too dumb and cheap to deploy it correctly imo.
