This is true. His first mistake was switching to non-military targets when he was bombing the shit out of England. The RAF would have been in deep shit if he had continued to bomb the airfields. The second and arguably biggest fuck up was Operation Barbarossa. -

Oh fucking exactly. Hiring picked up on the radar towers and started hitting them first before striking the RAF airfields. Thus tactic was quite successful for a shirt period if time. During that brief period the RAF suffered horrible loss ratios compared to the Luftwaffe.
It was pure chance that saved the RAF from certain destruction. A German bomber on a raid got lost due to poor navigation and bombed London. This infuriated Churchill who ordered RAF Bomber Command to organize and execute a bombing raid on Berlin for revenge and as a moral boost for the British forces and civilians. The raid dropped us ordinance on Berlin successfully with no real military or industrial damage. But the success of this raid was not in the direct damage to selected targets. It true value was the rage it sent Hitler into.
He ordered Goering to bomb the British population centers into submission. He falsely believed this would crush the civilian populations moral causing them to force the British government to sue for peace.
It was a fatal mistake as it gave the RAF Fighter Command the needed time to regroup, repair, retrain, and resupply. With the radar repaired and their airfields no longer under direct attack the RAF inflicted losses on the Lufftwaffe in the summer and fall of 1940 from which it would never fully recover.
Had Hitler allowed Goering to continue attacking radar and airfields the RAF Fighter Command would have be decimated by the end of 1940. With no air cover the British coast would have been ripe for Operation Sea Lion. England would have fallen by Autumn if 41. Thus would have eliminated the need for a protracted North African and legit one front by the spring of 42.
With only one front Barbarossa not only launches in April instead if June but there are more resources available. With Britain out if the war before December 41 The Japanese have plenty of oil from newly captured British territory in Asia. Thus means there is no need for Peral Harbor. Without Petal Harbor its almost impossible for FDR to justify involment to an American public still recovering from economic disaster.
Without America or Britain in the Pacific or Asia Japan bypasses the Philippines, Conquers China, and squeezes Russia from the East in the spring of 42 as Germany delivers the death blow to Moscow by the autumn of 42. By the Spring if 43 Japan and Germany divide up Russia, Germany rules Europe and Spaghetti becomes a staple food in North Africa.
Kind of strange to think if that one pilot had not gotten lost how much different the world might be today. It makes one wonder what effect the simplest thing any if us do might have for generations to come without ever knowing it. -
