In those times, NatSoc ideals were very popular among the 'elites' of a lot of countries. One of the reasons being that they had a general interest in the principles of eugenics. Something practiced, researched and applied from early days in Nazi Germany through various programs most significantly under the auspices of the Aktion T4 initiative. -

Tommy Douglas was a eugenist though, having wrote his thesis on "moral fitness" required for marriage licenses/procreation. Apparently he renounced that ideology later but was certainly all for it early in his life/career. T-Dougs daughter smuggled guns for the black panthers and his son is Donald sutherland and grandson is keifer Sutherland. He was voted by the citizens of Canada to be the "greatest" Canadian which is hard to deny, having been the originator of our universal health care which has been the model for many countries. Not that the system doesn't have huge problems but it's objectively a good thing for the citizens of Canada
WLMK (weird willie) was really just an insane bureaucrat who was pretty naive and likely got lost in his eyes due to hitlers charisma. He was obsessed with his own mother and dog and used a crystal ball (as did Ronald and Nancy Reagan to see into th3 future) to talk to them after their passing.
