2022-02-25 at 12:51 PM UTCI recently read an interesting article but I can't find it now.
It's possible to fairly accurately estimate IQ by testing a person's reaction speed - as a result, it's possible to estimate the IQ of people even before the scale was devised.
According to statistical medical data, people in the Victorian era had significantly higher reaction speeds than people tested today, even though average tested IQs are slightly higher now.
The takeaway from this seems to be that the people of the past had greater potential due to selection pressure, but people today are able to compensate for that lack of potential with standardised education. -

Mine would be low then but I think it’s something to do with focus. -

just having a low reaction speed doesn't make you dumb, it just means you have to work at it more
I just found it interesting that average human intelligence has seemingly degraded over the years, even though we're able to make and do things we couldn't imagine a century ago -

I think people still have the capability to focus, that our biology hasn't changed, there's just too many distractions now. In the past people would be engaged for hours with five hour plays like those of Shakespeare's or political debates with the opponents talking continuously for hours. If you do find the article please share it. -

back when i was in school i used to ask people trick questions and would start my countdown as soon as i finished asking.
for every 1 second elapsed between me finish asking and getting a correct answer, i would deduct 10 iq point from the person i asked.
everyone was given a default iq of 180 at the start.
so if you give me a correct answer within 3 seconds, your iq would be 150. -

Seems like a really vague and poorly defined inference. -

Why did you leave Tampa? too hot for you? too muggy? not enough work? cops were meaner? who the fuck voluntarily moves back to ND? My Mom couldn't wait to get the fuck out of there and left at age 19. our family were first Homesteaders there. -
