The ramping up of tyranny only serves to prolong the situation for everyone. The more tyranny, the worse it gets for the tyrants, and their fan club.

So, when you look at the larger picture, the protesters actually played right into their trap. They would have been better off to simply stick with non-compliance. If no one complies, that leaves them powerless.
