   front because you need to monitor the dogs position, my dog walks on my right side so im about 30 inches of leash away from my right hand . lesss slack means lesss freedom of movement and less likelihood they get around a pole or run outside of the sidewalk on our walks, this dog doesn't need a leash so when i have a dab cart and a drink in my hand i just walk to the gas station with the dog at my side using verbal commands.
