this was where thr knights made their stand the hospitaliers vs the ottoman turks where it was like 40000 pttomans surrounding 800 knights and two thiusand civilian fighters and they won or defended it. it was also the spot or a rbeuilding of a fort over a medieval castle at one point. apparently in the movie kingdom of heaven when the hospitaliers if you guys remember in 1291 at the end of the film before the sa,dins invasion began of the holy city they didnt fight and left the holy land. malta was where they went or some other island first then malta some teo hundred yrs later.
