We got ourselves a Nintendo Switch for Christmas.
So far we have played the new Mario bros game, Zelda breath of the wild, some free racing game called asphalt 9, and we just got Thief Simulator on sale for like $3, I think this will be a fun game.
Remember wiisports? The most comical looking characters of all time and when it came out people were like "HOLY FUCK THISVIS THE HEIGHT OF VIRTUAL REALITY ITS LIKE IM INSIDE THE VIDEO SCREEN MAMA" That quote should be accompanied by a picture of some balloon head trying to bowl
The reason Wii Sports was so popular had nothing to do with virtual reality (which it isn't), barely anything to do with motion controls and everything to do with the fact that Nintendo is actually, genuinely the king of understanding human-machine interaction and immersion like no other tech company on Earth except possibly Valve.
Wii Sports was an extremely simple implementation of motion controls, like they used IR for pointing and basic accelerometer based input where any sort of large acceleration = input. Wii tennis and stuff, you could just swing any way you wanted, even just flick your wrist in any direction and it would hit. But the killer part was it demonstrated that people VOLUNTARILY CHOSE to act like they were actually playing tennis and make giant swings and dance around and shit because they very intelligently designed the console and game for immersion. Here's the thing that folks don't understand: the reason Wii Sports was so popular had barely anything to do with motion controls. People don't give the Wii enough credit for EXACTLY how innovative it actually was because motion controls take the limelight. But what actually hooked people was the fact that the Wii remote was wireless, had rumble and had a SPEAKER FOR PLAYING SFX. This is what got people. You would swing and the controller would make a SWOOOOSH-THUCK and rumble as you hit the ball or whatever.
Also the IR pointer was actually insanely precise for FPS games and absolutely shits all over dual analogue controls. It is a shame the Wii was too weak to handle many FOSes but the ones that made it felt genuinely incredible to play once you got used to the controls. But for Wii Sports, it was a completely different technology that gave the illusion of being extremely accurate to the other motion controls, which were actually pretty basic.
All together I am very surprised other companies didn't learn more from the Wii and Wii Sports specifically.
I am, for example, completely baffles that Sony and Microsoft don't both have some kind of "free flagship pack-in demo game" as a standard. It literally increased the value of the Wii to a whole other level it never would have had by itself.
For PlayStation, it would be a total no-brainer to allow Media Molecule to keep creating creation toolkits like LBP and Dreams and just release it for free on the oaltform because it brings so much more value to the platform by having a large base of developers and players who can play it for free, than by trying to jew $60 out of a couple of people.

The Wii U has no games. That console is a fucking joke and the only ones who bought that shitty gimmick device were manchildren and actual children, not real gamers.
Wii U has the entire Gamecube, Wii, and Wii U library, plus Retroarch, so you're as retarded as you are gay, faggot.
