The oil price is weird though. It's such a massive asset, and demand is more or less constant. Supply is intensely political. The price of oil is more or less decided by the Saudis, and they always seemed happy to go for $50 or so a barrel until 2008, when they let the price ride to way more than $150. Then they calmed down or had to compromise, but after the covid shit and the low oil prices they had to deal with, with no solidarity from the west, I think they might be ready to let the price go back up to a higher level again. Good for them.

Things like Neom are cool and all, but Saudi's oil revenue is what keeps the place running. I've read before criticisms of Arabs by other Arabs, basically they don't work and don't see working as being a good thing. Working is something low status in Arab culture.

I wouldn't buy shorts, since shorts are open ended when it comes to losses, but you can use put options the same way.
For instance I bought a put option on Moderna for $230 in March, and have made 25% on the play so far. You can sell the put options at any time too, so you don't even need to worry about the real world. Money printer go brrr.

Where do you stand on diesel futures? It seems diesel is steadier because heavy industry is reliant and that's unlikely to change. It's actually been climbing higher than petroleum has at least around here.

Why on earth would you solicit Soigay's opinions?

I have no idea at all. I don't even think I have access to diesel futures on the retail trading platform I am using (degiro), all I am betting on is Brent oil, which is one of the two big oil price indicators. DeGiro is one of those things like RobinHood that exists mostly for people to buy Apple shares and meme stonks, it's very good, but can be limited in the products it offers.
I think oil has gone up a lot, and it'll have to come down a little, but I still expect $100 oil this year. Most people have a mental block on the period, but we had $100 oil from 2008 - 2014 or so.
