   Stuff like that would never happen now in an era of industry self regulation. Top down government approach just cannot work when an economy gets this big because it creates too much incentive for corruption and rule skirting like with the Toyota "greenwashing" scandal

   The government has no problem covering up scandals or downplaying things if it benefits them. That being said the pharmaceutical industry is not self regulated and is highly corrupt and reliant on lobbyists and favorable red tape monopolistic laws that keep them in power and make it impossible for anyone else to compete or challenge their authority since they are so ingrained in big government
