How long can you leave an infection before it's bad

2022-01-07 at 9:40 PM UTCI sliced up my finger a week ago and it's still not healed and now looks a bit red but its right on my finger. I have only been cleaning it and changing the bandaid a lot, haven't used any neosporin. I will get some tomorrow
am i going to die? -
2022-01-07 at 9:54 PM UTCDepends if you get septicemia or not...when you start getting cold sweats and the shakes go to the ER room.
that was one of the occasions I nearly died. I had a tiny blister one day, next day (well maybe 4 days later) ended up half dead in hospital with septicemia for 2 weeks and costing $152,000 after all the bills rolled in...the 2 weeks in hospital was $87,000 of that, the rest 2 surgeries, various fees/pick line installation and antibiotics etc etc.
I paid $6500 (my deductible), insurance paid the rest.
(I posted some gory photos of it in the past)
Of course that's not a concern of yours with all that free healthcare. -

did you ask for an itemized bill? most of those "charges" you can get rid of due to them all being lumped in but not actually used. I have had a few medical bills get lowered that way -
2022-01-07 at 10:49 PM UTCIs it leaking white or yellow pus, does it smell like a nasty foot (worse than the rest of you does) opened up out the sock, is it extremely hot to the touch (make HTS touch it since he isn't gonna be warm if you're fevering), and most importantly, has the skin around it gotten reddened more in the last 24 hours like expanding from where it was in growing in radius?
I know what i'm asking about. -
2022-01-07 at 10:58 PM UTCthe wound has not healed over but the puss did dry out and kind of create a barrier

its not leaking and just smells like a bandaid, the scab is yellow and it's a bit red around the area but that might be because it's on one of the bends of my finger on my dominant hand so it could just be irritation idk it has been a week so it should be worse if it's infected by now I would think -
2022-01-07 at 11:06 PM UTCYou're good.
-
2022-01-07 at 11:09 PM UTCinfections heal by themselves. all you need to do to prevent it from worsening is to lick it frequently and let your t-cells do the rest.
thats what ferral dogs where i live treat themselves when they get bone-deep cuts and bites. -
2022-01-07 at 11:13 PM UTCCut it off clean with a butcher's hatchet, burn the stump up to the knuckle with a Bic lighter, you're good to go.
-
2022-01-08 at 12 AM UTCYou can ignore any infection resulting from an injury right up until the moment you get sepsis.
-
2022-01-08 at 12:26 AM UTCYou should probably get some neosporin for next time I think it speeds up the healing process, I pretty much always use it when I get cut. Just keep it with your bandaids.

And that was on his toe IIRC folx. -
2022-01-08 at 12:33 AM UTCWhy do you assume it's infected OP? If you damaged the tissue badly then it's going to go all red and take a while to grow new connections and blood vessels and the like no matter what.

And the polysporin salesman is too hungover to sell it to you, but he still puts on his big boy pants every morning and does it anyway, because that's life, and if you don't take care of your shit it's just going to fall apart and rot. -
