Got a 2004 Pontiac GTP today.

2022-01-07 at 4:52 AM UTCGot it for someone else but still drove it a little.
Made me really miss my old GTP and superchargers in general.
The guy we picked it out for immediately filled it up with the wrong gas...
Im sure he won't like paying 65 cents more a gallon for premium but the car is a lot more fun than any of the others we looked at.
Honestly wished he would have been okay with the old grandma Buick on account of it having 100k less miles but once common sense was out the window and we saw something with aftermarket rims we knew it was the car for him.
It wasn't my money but still I was trying to find something decent and not some rode hard black kid car.
Prices are high as fuck for used cars right now though and some of what was in the price range was plain shit.
One car we looked at was an old rusty chevy cobalt with a dick keyed onto the hood and 4 tires that looked like they sat in a field for 20 years. Engine sounded like a coinstar machine and the guy wanted $3k for that :(
The GTP ended up being $3k out the door which only didn't feel like a rip off because we spent probably 15-20 hours looking over the last couple days.
Hopefully the guy babys it and can drive it long enough to get on his feet. -

2022-01-07 at 5:04 AM UTCThat supercharger is in its way out if it hasnt been replaced before.
I had a vortech supercharger on a lifted ram i had a few years ago...brings back some fun memories but i often thought about the longevity and when it needs work its not going to be cheap. Same scanerio with your buddies new car except my supercharger only had about 25k miles on it when i sold the truck. -

I named my old GTP "Richard" because it was gay how much money I had to put into maintenance on it.
Doesn't matter as he can't afford to fix it and I'll have to anyways.
He just lost his beat up old pickup truck because the drive shaft fell out which would have only cost whatever a could u-bolts go for these days but now that it is towed off it is too late.
I replaced so much on my GTP but I also drove it like an absolute jackass. -

Your friend sounds like a person who repeatedly makes poor choices.
A person with little money should drive a manual honda civic. Cheap to buy, cheap to fix, and run forever with great mpg.
Your friend reminds me of a guy i used to hang out with in highschool. His car took a major shit and he was in the search for a different one. I said get a civic for the above reasons. Fuckin retard goes and buys a 200k mile mazda supercharged melinia (sp?) It was nice but i knew what was going to happen and it did. Supercharger went out 10k miles later and then he sold it for scrap. 4000 dollars down the drain. -

The Millenia technically wasn't supercharged it was a compressor yes but the engine itself was a Miller cycle engine.
A Miller cycle engine is a bit different from a regular 4 cycle engine.
I hated working on those fucking things.
Fun tip if you remove the front intercooler and start the engine it makes the coolest noise ever. -
2022-01-07 at 4:54 PM UTCI just looked it up and it says it has a scroll supercharger ?

Scroll compressors by Copeland revolutionized the A/C industry. Those things wear in rather than wear out and have less to break down and cost less to run. I used to have fun shutting them off and then back on immediately to make them run backwards (very noisily) when they first came out. -
