   Read again. I was looking to purchase a prepaid visa card to be sent to me by Amazon rather than go into the bank and do it. I wanted it for christmas gifts or even when I go to NYC it's best to pre-pay for like 5 cards with 50-150 dollars each. so you hide your credit cards and ID at the hotel (or at least the credit cards) so if you get robbed, they wont have all your shit. just carry one or two prepaids and leave the credicard at the hotel.
   
   you can't rent a car or a hotel room with a pre-paid so I still have to bring my credit card or debit card from the bank to purchase the room.
   
   always carry a secondary wallet with bits of cash, prepaid and if possible, an old ID. even if its expired you're only carrying it in case you get hit by a car, mugged or some other shit and need to be identified (hopefully not by a coroner office)
   
   I carry a second wallet with maybe 60 in cash (but not spend it, only when places don't have card readers) and my old ID, Hospital card and a couple pre-paid. if someone picks my pocket, I just go back to the hotel and have a backup.

   It's much easier to just grab a bunch of unactivated gift cards and carefully cut open the packaging with a razor blade, record the number from the card, then reinsert the card back into the packaging and replace them on the shelf. When people buy and activate the cards, the funds will then be available for the numbers.

   the visas have you create a 4 digit pin to prevent just that.
   
   maybe the others dont but visa does.
