   "Emulator" is a heinous term for it. You're running a VIRTUAL MACHINE. Which, yes, it is an EMULATION, but the term is incorrect.

   I think he's talking about WINE, which stands for "Wine Is Not Emulation". It's technically an API layer, and it works well for some programs, but for most Windows programs is pretty heinous. You shouldn't be relying on it at all.
   
   The experience of using Linux actually is great though, you have a lot of free programs available, including things like GIMP and Blender, and you can install things like Google Chrome which works just fantastic, and more and more applications are going online or using Electron, which is more or less cross platform by design.

   OK so can I run 3D Studio Max "Windows" format in GNU and how is it done.
   
   I was trying to use what terms I thought were appropriate. It's the only program I plan on using. Why.. Because they don't make it for Linux.
   
   "Why not use Blender-- its free" I will use Blender regardless.. but 3D Studio Max isn't just 3D software, it has these cool special Fx plugins that you create Fx to your likings. and you can make them presets and share those formats with other 3D users.
   
   So because I spent over 2k on it (Idiate SF office) I want to continue its use while I learn to code. the Max code is the next language I want to learn. I want to no longer use Windows.. Period. Microsoft didn't make this software but made it so it only runs on Windows.
   
   I want to try and see how stable it would run in a virtual window on Linux.
   
   So again, does anyone know how you do this?
