He downloaded them and printed them on print paper.
look how white the borders are. looks thin too. it would be yellowed a bit. even when brand new, the photo paper back then wasn't bleach white. it had a tinge to the photo paper from the old chemicals used. which have a lot of iron in them so they turn reddish-orange in just a matter of years. even if they're in dust jackets they would still oxidize over the 8 decades that WWII has been now.The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire! -
