How real science is done

The search failed to find the particle, known as the sterile neutrino.

This will now direct physicists towards even more interesting theories to help explain how the Universe came to be.

Prof Mark Thomson, the executive chair of the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), which funds the UK's contribution to the Microboone experiment, described the result as ''pretty exciting''.

That is because a sizeable proportion of physicists have been developing their theories on the basis that the existence of the sterile neutrino was a possibility.

Observe how, instead of blaming their not being able to find the particle they were looking for on people they don't like, like the unvaccinated, they accept reality like it is and move on with their research, changing their world view to correspond with what the evidence shows?

That's like the complete opposite of how these people who claim to love and respect science behave.

So if I can't find my keys that means they don't exist?...doesn't seem very scientific.

Absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence etc.

On the one hand, sure. On the other hand, if you created an experimental protocol wherein your keys are very likely to be observed if they actually exist, and you fail to observe your keys... well, while you haven't disproved the existence of your keys, you've certainly gained evidence to support a belief that your keys don't exist. Or to make the analogy a little better, if you search everywhere in your house for your keys and don't find them, odds are they aren't in your house. Doesn't mean they aren't - maybe you overlooked something - but you might wanna start looking at new hypotheses. Like maybe they're on your front porch.

But that's still acknowledging their existence whereas the premise of the OP is they are giving up looking for them and instead exploring "more interesting theories"

    keyless entry?

Yes, the keys are a bad analogy and you probably shouldn't have used them as one? I'm just rolling with the shitty analogy you used, chief. They might not be on your porch either. They might have been stolen and melted down by evil wizards. Who knows.

N/m I found them, they'd fallen down the back of the sofa.

What do ravens have to do with keys I don't get it.

Consider the following: your keys are merely a theoretical construct, a fundamental property of which is "down the back of the sofa-ness". Now imagine you'd looked down the back of your sofa and not found the keys. Imagine you'd dissolved the entire sofa in magic sofa solvent, and no keys were detected in the residue. Either you can spend the rest of your life performing experiments on sofas in a desperate bid to prove to the world that your theoretical keys are real, or you can... move on.

all it takes for this to stop working is for someone to point out that these bunch of scientists are overwhealmingly WHITE PEOPLE WITH UNMUTILATED PENISES.
