The Official NIS 2A Thread

This thread is for discussion of the 2nd amendment and all things firearm related. Talk about your opinion on 2A, the guns you own, your favorite ammunition for various calibers, shooting techniques you are working on or have developed, or any firearm related news regarding the 2nd amendment issues. At some point I will post a list of everything I own, why I own each one, and the rounds I prefer for practice vs the ones I prefer for every day carry.

Expect much trolling ITT as many users here think they can get my goat and many are just flaming brainwashed libtards or at least pretend to be.

To start with my every day carry is the FN 5.7 with a 30 round extended mag in a cross draw custom made holster with two 20 round mags on matching leather mag "holster". The reason I prefer this over my many 1991s and 9mms are as follows.

With it's polymer frame it only weighs 21 oz dry and not even double that with the 30 round mag. Loaded with the FN SS197SR 5.7x28mm FN 40 Grain Hornady V-MAX (Muzzle Velocity: 2034 fps) it comes in just under double that with the 20 round mags an a tad more with the 30. The recoil is almost non-existent which facilitates rapid back on target properties. at 50 yards it will (not can) penetrate level IIIA soft body armor and yet will not over pen and hit the innocent guy behind the bad guy.

My back up EDC is a Ruger SP101 2 inch snub nosed 5 round .357 Magnum loaded with Buffalo Bore 180 gr. Hard Cast LFN-GC (1,400fps/M.E. 783 ft. lbs.). The rig it is carried in has two pouches for my 5 round speed loaders.

On a daily routine I carry both of these with a total of 71 rounds of 5.7 and 15 rounds of .357. Sometimes when I go longer or overnight runs I also strap my CORE AR15 pistol with a 7 inch barrel chamber in AAC .300 Blackout slung across my back with a 30 round mag and two spares 30 round mags in my saddle bags.

I have other weapons that don't leave the ranch much but I will get more into that as the thread develops.

can't really post what I want to because it's risking my door getting kicked in (there was recently a guy a bit up the coast who got that treatment after he ordered a specific 3D printer and downloaded files from defence distributed), but I find 'clandestine' manufacture THEORETICALLY interesting, especially considering the current climate and the ridiculous ruse Port Arthur appears to have been.

that said, in a situation where there was an actual insurgency against state forces, small arms wouldn't be the most effective or worthwhile weapons to have.

lol@ the five seven; the only real reason to have one is for interchangeability with the P90 and AP ammo you can't legally buy anyway. in what situation would the bad guy be in front of the good guy?

why would you EDC two guns and 70 + 15 rounds? are you expecting to get jumped by all the crips at once or get into a protracted firefight with a grizzly?

that is to say the FS is cool and I wish I had one, but it doesn't really seem like a practical choice

I bought a BB gun that shot yellow plastic pellets in Spain once for about a fiver and smuggled it home then sellotaped a laserpen to it

If u run out of pellets u can throw it at someone too and it goes kinda far cause it’s so light

    How cost effective is that

Look you never know when a kevlar-wearing rapist is going to sneak into your house at 2am. Being able to penetrate the rapist before you get penetrated is important.

    My EDC btw:

I could carry a gun, but these are just as illegal (presumably because they're just as deadly).

Yeah I get that where you live.

Like I said that is my EDC. The scenario you describe is not every day. I have ARs chambered in 5.56, AAC .300 Blackout, 7.62×51mm NATO, and .458 SOCOM as well Barrett M82A1 50BMG (semi auto) as well an RIA VR80 and VR60 12GA semi auto with 5, 9, and 19 round mags. So unless you are suggesting armored fighting vehicles or artillery I don't know where you were going with that.

Upon release in 98 the FN 5.7 was restricted to LE and military only even in the U.S. In 2004 it became available to the public. That should tell anyone something about it's effectiveness. In the U.S. you can by any ammo made for the FN including the previously LE only SS190 Black Tip, of which I have 1000 rounds. I also have green tip. But for EDC I prefer FN SS197SR Hornady 40 Grain Hornady V-MAX. It is a hollow point with a polymer ballistic tip. For a public self defense situation I feel it is the clear choice. With a 2034 Feet Per Second muzzle velocity it will pen IIIA and bullet poof glass even without black or green tip.

As to why I carry so many rounds there are two reasons. One because I can. Two because too much is better that too little and too much his never enough. Also I do not believe in concealed carry other than a few exceptions. I open carry all of it in plain sight as signal to those who would do harm that there are softer targets, and this might not be the time or the place to harm someone in my vicinity. They called it deterrent in the cold war and as Teddy Roosevelt said, "Walk softly and carry a big stick".

The police didn't want you to have it because 9 times out of 10 in a given shoot out, the guy wearing body armor is also wearing blue. They didn't want gang bangers to start popping their kevlar clad thugs. The whole point of 5.7mm was effectiveness against body armor, neh? Body armor is also not a scenario you're likely to run into "every day", so it is kinda weird that the Five Seven is your EDC. Not saying it's a bad choice or anything (bullets is bullets), just weird.

Ha, my menacing aura would apply too much psychological pressure for you to even approach me. You would fumble aimlessly trying to unholster your puny five seven, and I would break your wrist and render you unconscious with my nunchucku skills which I have diligently practiced with daily kata. If you managed to get a shot off (unlikely) I would simply slap the bullet out of the air with my dojo's secret whirlwind technique. I am unstoppable.

Not trying to pick a fight or put you down OK? That being said here is some info on the 5.7x28mm that should make it seem not a "wierd" choice for EDC.

The cartridge itself was developed by FN Herstal in response a NATO request for a replacement of the 9×19mm Parabellum. The request required better range, accuracy and terminal performance than the 9mm as well as the ability to pen IIIa.

Would you find it odd if my EDC was a 9MM? No of course not. The 9x19mm is one of the most popular EDC rounds out there including US Military sidearms. So it makes sense to me to carry a platform that only weighs 26 oz. with a 20 round mag and about 31 oz. with a 30 round mag (21.5 oz dry), that out performs the 9x19mm in every aspect, that has a flatter trajectory with less recoil (quicker times back on target), can pen IIIA and bullet proof glass...

One final point everyone's hand/grip is different. The first time I held the FN Five-Seven it fit my grip like a glove. Toss the 30 round mag in and it becomes like a custom fir grip for my hand. So my shot placement is better than with my 9's as well.

The one downside is the cost of the ammo. Right now on ammoseek.com the cheapest 5.7x28mm is $1.00 per round while 9x19mm is as low as $0.30 per round.

Hmm after a little looking around it seems two more arms manufacturers have entered the 5.7x28mm market. I knoew about the Ruger 57 released in December of 19, But now Keltech has the P50™. It has 50 round magazines, a 9.6 inch barrel, comes in at about 53 oz. dry. I am curious what the increase in muzzle velocity would be with another 4.5 inches of barrel. In any event it is a bit ugly and with an overall length 15 inches would not be very practical for EDC but could prove capable in certain tactical scenarios.

Then there is Excel Arms with the MP-5.7. With only a 9 round capacity. a barrel length of 8.5 inches, a dry weight of 54 oz, an overall length of 12.875 inches it also does not seem like a good EDC solution but more of a target pistol. Although it kind of looks cool being reminiscent of the 60s/70s James Bond appearance.

Perhaps as more companies produce 5.7x28mm weapons it will bring the price of the ammo down.

yeah that was more or less what I meant about it being practical; you're paying a lot for both the gun and ammo just to potentially punch holes in vests, which is something most people don't really need
