I also taught my children to shoot. We used to all sit on the table in the back yard with BB guns shooting at a hanging soda can and not stopping until the can was shot in half and the bottom half fell to the ground declaring the person making the final shot the "winner".
This particular son was nicknamed "Dead Eye Dan" for winning a turkey at a turkey shoot at the age of three (with a little aiming assistance from the old man) using my old Winchester Model 12 given to me by my great-grandfather who had purchased it back in the 30's.
My daughter won $40 once at a meat shoot.
