POWERING ON MY $600 486 GAMING COMPUTER!

  1. #41
You have to set and save the CMOS Bios settings (like the hard drive). Directly after pushing power, hold down the F1 key on the keyboard until the BIOS screen comes up. Go to device settings and scan for the hard drive, then save and exit and reboot.

After the CMOS BIOS settings are set and saved and the hard drive is online, you have to boot off a Windows setup disk in the CD drive and format the hard drive and set up Windows.

After doing the above, take your 486 out to the dumpster and insert.

Or, maybe you could use it to fix that hole in your roof.

Why would you want a 486 if you were putting windows on it...Fdisk and then Format in DOS will take care of setting up the drive.

I'd put Win3.1 on it, which already comes with native MS-DOS.

No, Win 3.1 required dos to be installed first...

    True. Win95 then.

You'd still want a good version of DOS as well as Win95 if you are building a DOS computer.

Use the on disk tools to Fdisk and format the drive, Install DOS 6.22 then install Win95...the dos with Win95 is not fully compatible with all DOS applications (and as I recall it's missing a few commands).

Strip down the mobo to the bear minimum…graphics output, small amount of memory, keyboard…nothing else and see if it powers on. If you got a bunch of boards etc already plugged in it there might be an IRQ conflict or something.

Because he's a fucking retard who will actively do the opposite of what he was advised. Now he spent 6x as much as the computer is even worth, just to probably end up destroying it trying to do something dumb like boot off a $980 tape drive he got off marketplace.

No, only when your point has nothing to do with THE point.

The person making the purchase makes THE point...not you the observer.

Anyone can make a point. Just because you can't understand mine or articulate yours is no reason to resort to fallacy.

Well as I already stated, YOU missed the point not I...the point being that the guy with the desire and the cash...in this instance Fona...gets to decide what he wants, as he's already stated he has multiple PCs...including a gaming Win10 system...(READ THIS BIT SLOWLY)...he doesn't want or need that...he wants a working 486 era computer because WIN10 gaming systems struggle to run old dos games natively and some folks like original hardware.
