   What if he's trying to show you he cares, an indirect way of demonstrating his love, and secretly he's hurting inside because he thinks his son doesn't care about him and love him? If he never felt comfortable displaying, being open about, his emotions, you could have inherited that, and now neither of you know how and are unable to take the first step, you possibly blaming him, having your perception warped or at least relationship be far colder and more distant than it could, when in reality you're contributing a lot to it on your end and are guilty of the same things you may, subconsciously, feel resentful of him.
   
   
   
   
   It's been said that nothing makes a parent feel worse than thinking their own child doesn't care about them, and that they're unhappy and struggling in life, suffering. He may just want to help, but not know how. His father could have been the same way with him, and now you're continuing the cycle.

   I got sick of my Mom's boyfriend giving me life advice about drinking and smoking cigarettes and shit when I was 14. My mom didn't give a fuck. I told him I don't give a fuck. He said he was calling the cops and went to exit the basement, so I ran passed him grabbed him and pulled him back onto his ass and he rolled down the stairs and I fled. Never said shit to my drunk little ass again after that. My mom told me years later that when he complained after I did that she just told him, "Maybe you should just stop fucking with him, he's a smart kid but he gets mean."
