   It stands for Graphics Interchange Format. The G in graphics is not pronounced with a soft G. Therefore it is pronounced GIF not JIF no matter what that asshole Steve Wilhite says.

   Since the letter, "G" is the first letter of the word, "Graphics" in Graphics Interchange Format, and the word, "graphics" is pronounced with a grrr-G, it stands to reason that the acronym, GIF, would be pronounced the same way as the word, "graphics".
