It looks like it would be really on rails with invisible walls everywhere but it's actually a pretty open game, kinda reminds me of breath of the wild or a final fantasy online. I have watched some gameplay of it and it looks like it could be fun and then it spams you with BUY THIS NEW CHEST BONUS 10xX GEMS!!!!!
I think it's designed to look and feel like a REAL FULL MMO FREE ROAMING BIG MAP game but that's just to lure you in to the gacha mechanics.

Genshin Impact is an amazing game and all of my digital waifus will absolutely fucking stomp yours. I was f2p for like 7 months but finally spent some of stimmy money to based Xi so I could ensure that I got Kazuha, that chad. "Barely better than sucrose" they said, "A worse Venti" they said, "what the fuck is wrong with you" I said as I spent $100 to get the character that is now considered if not the best, than one of the best in the entire game. Fuck all the haters. I knew my samurai bro was worth it.
even with its gacha mechanics its still a better game than anything produced by the west in like ten years.

also I've really got to laugh at all the retards that think playing a game made in China will make them a communist or something. some of the absolute best games have been coming out of China, they are on a cultural ascendancy, especially in video games. Video games are after all, the most important, biggest entertainment sector of all, if you thought movies or TV mattered at all.
Dyson Sphere Program, Amazing Cultivation Simulator, Low Magic Age, Genshin Impact...not to mention the low key effect China has been having on the mod scene in many games over the past couple years. The mods I saw coming out of China for games like Mount and Blade surprised me back in 2017-2018 with how sophisticated and how much they were improving on things. Doesn't surprise me at all anymore, China has gone from "we'll make a shitty copy of your game and try to pass it off as the real thing for cheap profit" to "we are going to make a better version of the games you've already made". DSP is such a unique and fun take on the "factorio" genre of games and definitely takes the genre further, Amazing Cultivation Simulator takes rimworld and makes it into one of the most unique and Chinese games ever.
If you skip out on Chinese games going into the next decade you are going to miss all of the best games made. The west can't make a game to save its life.

have you really not even played it yet? you just admire the waifus? kinda based but honestly you should just play it. the monetization mechanics literally don't even matter until you've already sunk like 100+ hours into the game. the game is honestly very easy, yes there are some challenges that can require you to grind or spend cash but the rewards you get for clearing the ultimate, hardcore-whale tier content is pitiful. a full f2p can play the whole game and not give a fuck about money at all.
seriously though just play the game. start now so that you'll be able to pull THE RAIDEN SHOGUN BAAL in like a week and a half.

honestly feel kinda weird talking about convincing people to play genshin a year into it, I figured everyone that would want to play it has played it at this point. not only is it a good game, it's actually fucking great and some of the pluses are kinda subtle. the sound track, for instance, is one of the best in any game. there's a lot of attention to detail and where that detail fucks up is usually in English translation. there's a lot to love about this game and as salty as some of the vets are about various things, there's literally no competition for this game. sure it's like breath of the wild in some big ways but they're such drastically different games that I'm hoping for a cross over. 5 star link and zelda characters with an absolutely busted master sword, plz make it happen mihoyo and nintendo.

I thought it was a new game. I'm a pretty difficult person to sell a game to or even get to try it but I am definitely interested. They seem to be getting lots of exposure from word of mouth and stuff like twitch so maybe the game will blow up after being out for a while like final fantasy did.

The best time to start playing this game is right now. It's like bitcoin. Just get invested, even if you get bored of it for a bit your initial work will pay off. they've got a like 5-10 year plan, releasing 4 new continents and god knows how much other content. And even if you have a potato PC you can run it, because it's a god damn marvel of computer engineering to look so good and run so well on mobile, pc, and console. I think literally the first game of its kind in that regard, a full PC/console worthy experience you can have on your phone.
are there are limited items or unobtainables i can get now and just sit on them for a year and sell them for big bucks.
I am horribly addicted to skyblock minecraft because the idea of player markets, bazaar, auctions like in runescape is lots of fun to me and takes up all of my free time.
I've never played a gatcha game i think, don't really understand how they work but I am hebrew with my currency and like doing exploits to make big bucks in game thats my main grind in anything i play
