yeah US news is talking about gunfire and deaths at the airport but they're being very careful not to say who's firing or what the deaths are a result of
I may have misheard but on the radio this morning they were saying the US forces are in control of the airport and they fired some shots in the air to calm people down...because gunfire always clams me down.

yeah, from what I've seen they fired warning shots to try and get the horde off the runway in front of the plane but it created a stampede that killed a few of them. I don't think they actually fired into the crowd like a lot of people seem to be claiming
check the above videos - it wasn't that it ran them over, several people clung to the plane as it took off and fell off at like 200m - locals report at least 3 fell off and got pulverised on the pavement or rooftops
semi-related - I only just now read about why the Taliban destroyed those Buddha statues early on in the war. Basically a group of Swiss 'philanthropists' approached the local Mullahs/warlords, offering to pay to restore the statues. The Mullahs asked them why they were so concerned with the statues when the locals were starving, and asked them to send food or funding and they'd help restore the statues themselves. the Swiss group declined, so the local Taliban told them to get fucked and blew up the statues, later saying ti was rash and that they regretted it

I did not want to destroy the Bamiyan Buddha. In fact, some foreigners came to me and said they would like to conduct the repair work of the Bamiyan Buddha that had been slightly damaged due to rains. This shocked me. I thought, these callous people have no regard for thousands of living human beings—the Afghans who are dying of hunger, but they are so concerned about non-living objects like the Buddha. This was extremely deplorable. That is why I ordered its destruction. Had they come for humanitarian work, I would have never ordered the Buddha's destruction.[50]
