TBH watching this, I wonder if what's going on isn't simply that the glowies want the Taliban rehabilitated and on side in order to use against the various nations over there. -
2021-08-14 at 2:01 PM UTCthe national government is abandoning its positions and leaving equipment behind in exactly the same way that the Iraqi military did when ISIS rolled through; in that case there were rumours that they were getting orders from above not to fight or destroy equipment to intentionally allow ISIS to grow in strength.
if that's the case here it may be that the Taliban was meant to be groomed as a regional force in the same way, but they're already making overtures to diplomatic agreements with Russia and China. there's evidence that Ughyir separatists have been armed and trained in Afghanistan, then funneled back to China and Central Asia but it's hard to say whether the Taliban was involved or even supports it - they're similar ideologically, but given the last 20 years they're unlikely to knowingly do ANYTHING that contributes to US interests -

It's laughable to think they're 'flipping sides' here.
The Taliban will do what is best for the Taliban.
Stop reading Chinese/Russian propaganda online. The Taliban are only trying to establish legitimacy.
Afghanistan doesn't really contribute much to the interests of any nation -
2021-08-14 at 2:16 PM UTCdo you have a reading compr'ehension problem or something
nobody said anything about 'flipping sides', it was comparing the military trajectory of the Taliban to ISIS, which at the time was being groomed as a weapon in the service of US interests in the middle east. it would be very difficult for the Taliban to be used in the same way though, because they've already reached out (diplomatically) to competing interests after 20 years of the US hunting them down and ruining their country. -

2021-08-14 at 7:01 PM UTCAmerica shouldn't have been there in the first place. Same with Vietnam. American foreign policy has been disastrous since the beginning of WWI, and possibly before that.
America deserves the coming collapse. The American people to a lesser degree obviously. -

American B-52H bombers are understood to be conducting an attack on the largest Afghan air force base in order to destroy the aircraft based there.
lul
not like the Taliban would be able to fly or maintain most of the aircraft but I guess using the munitions is a different story -
2021-08-15 at 4:27 AM UTCactually they've shown off videos of them flying attack helicopters around Herat these last few days, interesting
