    Notepad++, but it's pretty shitty.

    I used to use BBEdit on the Mac at one stage, it was great, but has probably become shitty.

    It's hard to find a good simple text editor.

    Are you using Gnome 3? That whole layout system is awful imo.

    I never understood Gnome 3. I have always been confused to find people unironically using it just like a real desktop environment. I am thinking just use Mate or Cinnamon or XFCE or KDE, something that isn't deliberately crippled.

    Geany and Notepad++, Notepad++ is a heck of a lot better than notepadqq. Also, these days, i don't really do much scripting other than shell scripting on Windows boxes, so i default to old Visual Studio on a Win2k16 server. VS2015 gets recommended among MalDevs. But VS2017 will do too, and you can get MASM and the old low level stuff for CLI working just fine. I keep my Wanblows as contained as possible so after hacktivation and Dev Env Setup, the VM gets practically null routed until i run the appropriate mop up operations.

    Vim only for like over a decade now. BramVim to be specific. I’ve been tempted to migrate to kakoune or spacemacs or at least neovim but it just feels like shit working against all that muscle memory. I finally gave in and started using vim-plug instead of pathogen and even that was painful because I had some custom patches on my plugins I had to factor out into my vimrc proper. I think I’m basically a text editor boomer at this point.

    Some of older views in ISS were written with notepad.exe though.

    It's slower, and it's a bad imitation. Just my opinion, don't come for me.

    plain old notepad for me, never failed. i was close to abandoning it because it took so damn long to do copy replace operations but the one on windows 7 was a huge improvement that does everything instantly now as it should. i never use anything else unless i need spell check.
