I recently saw one posted for free and couldn't help but wonder what it would take to convert it.
Then I could just hire a trucker to move me to where ever I want.
    Any thoughts?

I like the idea, but they have a bunch of big ( $$ ) tires that are prolly junk if the trailer is free. And I dunno about working on air brakes. I don't think I could pull it off on the cheap but the right wheeler-dealer person could prolly get some tires on it cheap enough and have their buddy-uncle move it.

Would be cool though. For something I wouldn't move myself I like the idea of shipping container better because there's no tires/brakes/axles/lights to maintain and you can still have it moved on a truck. They seem more secure against break-in as well.

Also if you are willing to go through the time and money of making a POS trailer road-worthy and having it hauled, look into trailer houses. You can get those free or cheap when someone wants it off their land.. and it's already a house

You could always build a tree house in the woods.

Sorry Fona I really wish I could help you out.
The only advice I can give is to learn a trade. Plumbing? I know a guy making huge money doing that.
It sucks I know because your stuck on a mouse wheel you need to make enough to live and that takes up most of your time.
Are there any trade schools close by that have night courses?
It took my wife over six years to get a Bachelors degree in night school it sucked she hated it but now she makes really good money.
That degree helped her move up in the company she works for,now she is in management.
You can move up you can succeed it's just fucking hard and it takes time.

don't listen to that fool, if the tires arent flat it will move short distances and the breaks probably work fine its a massive commercial trailer made to work long after its been decommissioned

Which is exactly why he's not going to do it.

People don't want to become wealthier. They just want money to fall out of the sky.

    when i was a kid i imagine living in a 40ft container.

id divide it into 2, with one 20ft section as living space and the other 20' for my cars and bikes.

10000% false. They are meant to be constantly maintained. Even sitting for as little as a year could mean all the brakes are seized up.

Don't forget tires are ~$1000/tire even for retreads.

As for the cost to convert? Way way way more than it's even remotely worth, and you're never going to find a trucker willing to just move you around willy nilly without tons of $$$.

I’m currently building a custom home and, with what I’ve been paying various sub contractors, I can attest the trades are making a killing right now.
