How the fuck is peak oil demand a thing?

  1. #1
This is happening in the context of forecaster after forecaster warning that peak oil demand is looming on oil producers’ horizons.

BP, for instance, predicted that in the worst-case scenario peak oil demand has already arrived, and in the best-case scenario, it will come in 2030. Norway’s Equinor expects peak oil demand sometime in 2027 or 2028. Rystad Energy sees demand peaking in five years, and the International Energy Agency expects peak demand over the next decade. All in all, forecasts are within the range of 2030.

This means that Russia, the UAE, and all other big oil producers have very little time to diversify away from their main export commodity.

Holy shit the idea that keeping warm and moving around and plastic shit is going out of fashion. And this is taken seriously?

This is as stupid as the idea of the post-scarcity economy.

Oil men seem like a bunch of dumb fuckers by and large, but this "paper" is about the shittiest I have ever seen. It's a few years old, so the predictions it makes are already proven wrong.

peak oil will happen within this decade because china is diving very hard into ev and alternative energy vehicles.

and already plastics, especially consumer plastics are being phased out in most countries.

Peak oil production or peak oil demand.

If the latter then both of those things sound like bullshit to me. EVs are shit, and there is no alternative to oil based fuel, besides things like LNG.

    And plastics are everywhere.

And so much oil is used and you don't even notice in heating and power generation and road building and construction and mining and shipping and aviation.

first the later, then the former.

supply usually follows closely to demand, either due to politics or profit margin. if demamd falls, supplies will have to be cut back to keep the price of oil profitable.

and already major banks in the first world are banned y their shareholders and activists from funding new oil projects. and the problem with plastics is that no body recycles them, in the first world they separate their wastes and ship them to the 3rd world to be "recycled", and in 3rd world countries wastes are separated into different recycle bins before they are sent o the landfils.

nobody recycle plastics because there are too many types of them and its a nightmare to sort them out, but with AI and hopefully more stringent regulations, plastic can easily be sorted out and recycled and significantly reduce the need of virgin plastics.

and with the birth decline due to covid and famine and maybe a gemeratiin sterilized by covid vaccines, worldwide energy need is going to decline starting in the coming 20 years.
