It did in my house. Because cable decided to load up other towns with its service but not the far east county I lived in where they took like 5 years later. so we had DSL first the 1 then it jumped to 6. then cable put in cable internet in my town I had lived in for nearly 10 years. and didn't get it until the last year I lived there. but it existed probably as early as 1994-95?

Funny thing, I used to work for an underground cable company way back around 1984 and we were putting in fiber optic back then. and it was too ahead of its time. so they went back to coax

they understood the concept of a "WWW" back then. they didnt have a name for it yet or how to make it work until I guess html was written in 1991-92? but once it was done, the speeds were then placed in. also it was known that Taipan Enigma (Jeff) ran a computer repair store then got into ethernet service in Walnut Creek. he was on South California Street near the Bart Station. I guess selling ISDN and T3 Cat5 service-lines with the AT&T office across the street which made me think &Totse first may have been something to do with AT&T

I dont understand any of that technical shit but it seems to go together.

most people didnt have 80 mbit until very recently. i dont care about your yuppy ass neighborhood, having an individual high speed connection doesnt mean jack shit when everybody around you has a way slower one. good luck downloading that pirated movie with your 80 mbit speed when the person seeding it for you is on dialup, dumbass.

fuck off with that self absorbed mentality. i p2p regularly and i can tell you that my average download speed is not only a fraction of my modems capability but a fraction of 80 megabits right now in 2021.

I forgot what the old email type service was. Darpanet/arpanet? remember. you used a program to read old email type things but it was done in a huge group. so you used a decrypt if it was personal but people were making a type of thread with pieces of programs (legal or pirated?) like Wolfenstein you used an ap to compile or assemble them and it would then save it to a bat or exe file to install. how exciting it was to set it, forget it. come back a day later and have your newest version of some doom like game.

yes, it made you earn it. it was fulfilling in a way. today.. its lost that sense of specialness

and to think people like luigi and dipshit Bradley were crapping in their diapers back then. Like I spent nearly a decade on &TOTSE (well at 6 years before getting kicked off the dialup because of that shithead Digital Avatar got us to be the first to be booted causing the 61 second thread rule)

It never dawned on me that one day, there would be the new internet as big as it was. totse become that. predate manifesto describing what would happen on 9/11 (clearly from the people planning it) to the world being instant gratification without offering reason

rappers becoming big corporate billionaires. the Wheaties box guy becoming a transgender while his 18 year old daughter would become one of the youngest billionaires; like ever.

there is so much more. so so much more. yeah. dialup was fun.

This 100%. The biggest example is in modern day gaming. You no longer have to release a complete or even WORKING game, you just have to promise you'll fix it in a future update.

Porn has gotten lazy too imo. When I was a teenager I had a porno tape called "The Madam's Family" that was an Adams Family parody where they had to come up with enough money to save the house so they turn it into a whore house. Like, it actually had a compelling story line.

even in the 2000s the gaming scene was turning into shit as it stopped being a niche market and gained normie acceptance but it was the golden day of online gaming because it was still new. i get what you saying about releasing unfinished games, its the trend in todays programming, they have an audience of unpaid beta testers whose cuckery can always be relied on. all software including games are garbage these days and heavily bloated.

porn is not prerecorded anymore, its all about paying to video chat with a live slut nowadays. interactive porn FTW

    Thats not new.

They had beat off booths going back decades. drop a dime or quarter in per minute while the door slides down and some bitch keeps you teased to feed the booth

also the old 976 numbers that cost like a dollar a minute or 5 bucks or whatever it had costed

But see, the way I look at it is, people watch these premium cable shows where it's basically soft core porn: Why not just watch a porno?

When I get a telemarketer, I strike up large conversations about religion and politics and I refuse to get off the line and tie them up for hours at a time.
