Fake Tickets to Trump’s ‘2nd Inauguration’ Circulate on Social Media

In June 2021, a photograph started circulating on social media that supposedly showed a pair of tickets that were being sold to former U.S. President Donald Trump‘s “second inauguration.”
Trump lost his bid for reelection in November 2020. Though the former president continues to claim that the election was rigged (it wasn’t) by widespread voter fraud (also an evidence-free claim), and though many of his supporters have been led to believe that he will soon be reinstated is president, these claims are not based in reality.
This picture appears to have been first posted to the internet message board 4chan on June 13. That posting appears to have been made as a joke to mock the idea that Trump would soon be reinstated to the presidency. It did not include an offer to sell and we have not seen anyone offering these nonexistent tickets for purchase (or anyone purchasing them) for $1,200. While it’s possible that a scam artist will offer them for sale, these faux tickets are for a fictional event.
This is not the first time that fake tickets to Trump’s inauguration have circulated on social media. In November 2020, shortly after Trump lost reelection, an image started circulating online that supposedly showed an email from the Trump campaign offering inauguration tickets. As in the case above, this email was a fake email for a fake event.

A man who bragged about chugging wine at the Capitol riot is campaigning for office. He learned mid-interview he's running for the wrong seat.

Jason Riddle was arrested after admitting to chugging wine inside the US Capitol on January 6.
His case pending, he is running for the New Hampshire legislature to unseat the Democrat Ann Kuster.
In a TV interview, Riddle learned Kuster sits in the US Congress and he is in the wrong race.
A man who was charged after bragging that he had guzzled wine during the Capitol riot is now running for office - but appears to have accidentally joined the wrong race.
Jason Riddle of New Hampshire was arrested in February after he told NBC10 Boston that he joined rioters on January 6 as they stormed the Capitol.
He is accused of illegally entering a restricted building, theft of government property, and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, according to a criminal complaint.
He has now decided to enter politics and run for state representative, he said Sunday, with the intention of unseating the Democrat Ann Kuster in the 2022 midterms, the channel reported.
Kuster, however, is not a state representative but rather a member of the US Congress.
"I thought Ann was a state representative?" he said, when the reporter Katherine Underwood corrected him.
"No," Underwood said. "So, a state representative is in the State House in Concord."
"Yeah, that's what Ann is," Riddle said.
When Underwood informed him that Kuster actually worked out of Washington, DC, Riddle said: "Well, I guess I've got to run against that then."
But Riddle is barred from entering Washington while his case is pending, the network reported.
He also talked to the network about what running a political campaign was like while going through the court case.
He said he thought the notoriety from the court proceedings could only help him politically, saying: "In the long run, if you're running for office, I guess attention is good - attention I think will help me."
The fact that he joined the Capitol riot tells voters "I'm going to show up," he said. "I'm going to actually keep my promises and make some changes," he continued.
In January, Riddle told the network he hadn't been able to believe that former President Donald Trump had lost the 2020 election.
He said that he traveled to Washington and that when he saw people storming the Capitol he got swept up in the excitement and went in because he "just had to see it."
Once inside, he said, he raided the liquor cabinet of a member of Congress, "chugged it, and got out of there." -

Major publishers are refusing to offer a book deal to a 'radioactive' Trump, report says

Major literary publishers don't want to touch a Trump book with a 10-foot pole, Politico reports.
One industry source told Politico Trump "has screwed over so many publishers" before his presidency.
Trump's voluminous lies about election fraud make a Trump book a "fact-checking nightmare."
Former President Donald Trump boasted in a recent statement that he's "writing like crazy" on "the book of all books" and "turned down two book deals from the most unlikely publishers."
But in reality, all the major players in the publishing world are staying as far away from Trump as possible, Politico reported, citing both Trump's "radioactive" standing following the January 6 insurrection and the daunting task of fact-checking his copious lies about the 2020 election.
Former presidents usually have no trouble landing huge book deals with enviable advances. Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, for example, jointly got a whopping $65 million advance from Penguin Random House for their post-White House memoirs following a heated bidding war.
In Trump's case, however, it's crickets from all the big publishing houses, according to Politico.
Sources at major publishers Penguin Random House, Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins, Macmillan Publishers, and Simon & Schuster told Politico that they hadn't heard anything about Trump being offered a book deal and aren't keen to edit him anytime soon.
One industry source told Politico that in addition to the baggage from the insurrection, Trump "has screwed over so many publishers that before he ran for president none of the big 5 would work with [him] anymore."
"It doesn't matter what the upside on a Trump book deal is, the headaches the project would bring would far outweigh the potential in the eyes of a major publisher," Keith Urbahn, co-founder of literary agency Javelin, told Politico, saying that a publisher willing to take on Trump "is looking at a fact-checking nightmare, an exodus of other authors, and a staff uprising in the unlikely event they strike a deal with the former president."
Simon & Schuster faced internal dissent from staff after striking a deal with former Vice President Mike Pence.
Trump has written numerous books with the help of ghostwriters. His most successful book, "Art of the Deal," was published in 1987.
It's still possible that a smaller publishing house could pick up a Trump memoir, or that Trump could publish one on his own, Politico said.
His son, Donald Trump Jr., self-published his most recent book "Liberal Privilege: Joe Biden and the Democrats' Defense of the Indefensible" after Center Street, a division of Hachette Book Group, published his 2019 book "Triggered."
In both cases, bulk purchases from the Republican National Committee helped pad the book's sales.
"Triggered" debuted at the top of the next week's New York Times best-seller list for nonfiction, with an important caveat: a dagger symbol indicating a large percentage of the book's sales came from "institutional, special interest, group, or bulk purchases."
"It's known in the industry as the 'deadly dagger,'" a source told Page Six. "A rare penalty that is only called for flagrant fouls." -

New emails detail Trump's push for DOJ to overturn election results

Washington — New documents released Tuesday by Democrats on the House Oversight and Reform Committee demonstrate the extent of efforts by former President Donald Trump to push the Justice Department to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Representative Carolyn Maloney of New York, the committee's chair, announced the release of documents ahead of a hearing on the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6 by a violent mob of Trump supporters seeking to overturn the presidential election. The rioters overran the Capitol as lawmakers and former Vice President Mike Pence met to finalize the Electoral College results.
"These documents show that President Trump tried to corrupt our nation's chief law enforcement agency in a brazen attempt to overturn an election that he lost," Maloney said in a statement. "Those who aided or witnessed President Trump's unlawful actions must answer the committee's questions about this attempted subversion of democracy. My committee is committed to ensuring that the events leading to the violent January 6 insurrection are fully investigated."
Ahead of the attack on January 6, Mr. Trump repeatedly refused to concede the election and falsely claimed that the election was stolen, even as dozens of lawsuits brought by his campaign alleging voter fraud failed. After the insurrection, he was impeached by the House on a charge of incitement of insurrection, but was acquitted by the Senate. Senate Republicans last month also blocked a bill to create a bipartisan, independent commission to investigate the attack.
In light of the newly obtained documents, the House Oversight and Reform Committee is seeking transcribed interviews with several former Trump administration officials, including former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, who repeatedly pressured the Justice Department to investigate baseless claims of election fraud, according to the emails.
In addition to demonstrating the reach of Mr. Trump's attempts to reverse his election loss to President Biden, the emails also show the former president dispatched at least one outside attorney pushing false election claims to work alongside the Justice Department's highest-ranking officials, including acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen, acting Solicitor General Jeffrey Wall and John Moran, Rosen's chief of staff, and challenge the outcome of the race.
One email dated December 29 sent from Mr. Trump's assistant to Rosen, then-deputy attorney general, Wall and Richard Donoghue, then-principal associate deputy attorney general, included a 54-page draft complaint to be filed with the Supreme Court raising issues with the election results in six key battleground states where Mr. Trump lost.
"The president asked me to send the attached draft document for your review," the assistant wrote, adding the document was also shared with Meadows and White House counsel Pat Cipollone.
Additional emails from Kurt Olsen, a private lawyer who worked with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in his failed bid to get the Supreme Court to overturn the election results, indicated Mr. Trump directed him to discuss further efforts at the high court with top Justice Department officials.
Referencing the unsuccessful request at the Supreme Court by Texas, Olsen emailed Wall on December 29 saying "the president directed me to meet with AG Rosen today to discuss a similar action to be brought by the United States."
"I have not been able to reach him despite multiple calls/texts," Olsen wrote. "This is an urgent matter."
He reached out separately to Moran that day, indicating the two had spoken, and said Mr. Trump "directed me last night to brief AG Rosen in person today to discuss bringing this action. I have been instructed to report back to the president this afternoon after this meeting."
Moran sent several emails to Rosen reiterating his conversations with Olsen, who also asked him to give the acting attorney general a December 28 letter from a Pennsylvania state senator alleging fraudulent votes were cast in the state.
The documents also reveal that Meadows asked the Justice Department to look into baseless claims of election fraud at least five times. On December 30, Meadows asked Rosen to look into "only the alleged fraudulent activity" in Georgia, forwarding an email from attorney Cleta Mitchell claiming that there were "video issues" involved in counting ballots in Fulton County. Mitchell later participated in a call with Mr. Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, during which Mr. Trump asked Raffensperger to "find" enough votes to overturn Mr. Biden's victory in the state.
Later on December 30, Meadows also emailed Rosen a translation of a letter from an individual in Italy claiming to have "direct knowledge" of a conspiracy in which an Italian facility changed electoral results "in coordination with senior US intelligence officials (CIA)" and "were loaded with information technology onto military satellites." He alleged that the data showed Mr. Trump was "clearly the winner" of the election.
Meadows emailed Rosen three times on January 1 asking the attorney general to investigate multiple conspiracy theories about the election, including sending a YouTube link that addressed the allegation of the outlandish Italian conspiracy.
Rosen forwarded one of Meadows' messages alleging irregularities in Georgia to Donoghue, writing, "Can you believe this? I am not going to respond to message below."
"At least it's better than the last one, but that doesn't say much," Donoghue replied.
Donoghue also called the allegations in the YouTube video circulated by Meadows "pure insanity," while Rosen told him he was asked to have the FBI meet with Brad Johnson, who was interviewed in the video about the baseless claims about Italy.
Johnson, Rosen said, was also working with Rudy Giuliani, Mr. Trump's private attorney who was a central figure in promoting the false claims the election was stolen. The acting attorney general indicated he denied the request to facilitate the meeting between the FBI and Johnson.
"Asked if I would reconsider, I flatly refused, and said I would not be giving any special treatment to Giuliani or any of his 'witnesses', and re-affirmed yet again that I will not talk to Giuliani about any of this," Rosen said.
The documents released by congressional Democrats also provide a window into the involvement of Jeffrey Clark, a former assistant attorney general. The New York Times reported in January that Mr. Trump plotted with Clark to oust Rosen amid the election controversy.
Clark and Rosen exchanged several emails in early January. In one, Rosen shared the cellphone number of BJ Pak, former U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia who resigned January 4. In another with the subject line "atlanta," Clark told Rosen, "I spoke to the source and am on with the guy who took the video right now. Working on it. More due diligence to do."
Several congressional committees are continuing investigations into the events leading up to January 6, even though an independent commission was blocked. Speaker Nancy Pelosi may also opt to create a select committee specifically to investigate the attack. -

Meadows and Rosen ultimately decided not to investigate the claims of election fraud
