    Former President Donald Trump has shut down his blog, his senior aide Jason Miller told CNBC. He added that it "will not be returning."

    "It was just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have and are working on," Miller said.

    Trump launched his blog, "From the Desk of Donald J. Trump," after getting banned from all the major social-media platforms following the deadly January 6 Capitol siege.

    He largely used the blog to publish short posts - many of them similar to his previous tweets - promoting himself, spreading lies about the election, and attacking Republicans who he believed were disloyal to him because they refused to support his claim that the election was stolen from him. Users could take the statements, images, or videos Trump posted to the website and share them on Twitter and Facebook.

    The former president's blog was ridiculed for its format after he and his team spent months claiming they would be launching a social media giant to rival Facebook and Twitter.

    An NBC News analysis found that the blog had a much smaller audience than his Twitter and Facebook accounts and that there was little engagement with the posts. NBC reported that in the week after Trump launched his blog, it drew a little more than 212,000 engagements, compared to a single tweet from the former president, which sometimes got hundreds and thousands of likes and retweets.

    There's already two-day gaps in the postings there going back months. And the Fake News clearly stated the blog is gone. It's not. They lie.

    There's no reason to have any commission, because we already know what happened. Nancy Pelosi and her gang of thugs ordered the Capitol Police to open the gates and welcome the protesters into the Capitol building, in an attempt to frame Donald Trump, then the same criminals rounded up peaceful protesters on trumped up charges for political gain. Nobody needs to have a commission to know that, because the evidence is already plain, clear and conclusive.

    160 Capitol officers injured after hours of fighting back the mob.
  9. Nancy Pelosi and her fellow conspirators declined requests from the Capitol Police for backup/assistance at the critical moment. That fact alone tells the whole story to any intelligent person.

    Police union says 140 officers injured in Capitol riot
    Tom Jackman 1/28/2021

    The physical toll on officers who defended the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 attack by a pro-Trump mob is becoming clearer, with reports by police officials and federal prosecutors indicating that about 140 officers were injured, the head of the Capitol Police officers’ union said.

    “I have officers who were not issued helmets prior to the attack who have sustained head injuries,” Gus Papathanasiou, union chairman, said in a statement Wednesday. “One officer has two cracked ribs and two smashed spinal discs and another was stabbed with a metal fence stake, to name some of the injuries.”

    Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick died after trying to defend the Capitol from rioters. One Capitol Police officer and one D.C. police officer who were responding on the scene have died by suicide since the attack.

    And since Jan. 6, 38 Capitol Police employees have tested positive for the coronavirus, almost entirely officers and supervisors who responded to the riot, Papathanasiou said.

    At least 81 Capitol Police officers were assaulted during the siege of the Capitol, according to filings by federal prosecutors. The filings did not detail injuries sustained by officers, and a Capitol Police spokeswoman did not respond to a request for comment on officer injuries.

    About 65 D.C. police officers also suffered injuries on Jan. 6, including several concussions from head blows from various objects, including metal poles ripped from inauguration-related scaffolding and even a pole with an American flag attached, D.C. police officials have said. Other injuries included swollen ankles and wrists, bruised arms and legs, and irritated lungs from bear and pepper spray.

    Reports say officers were pushed down stairs, trampled by rioters, punched and run over in a stampede.

    “I’ve talked to officers who have done two tours in Iraq who said this was scarier to them than their time in combat,” acting D.C. police chief Robert J. Contee III said at a news conference earlier this month.

    Florida Man Pictured Wearing Trump Shirt, Carrying Trump Flag Inside Capitol on Jan. 6 Pleads Guilty to Most Serious Federal Charge Against Him
    Aaron Keller

    Capitol siege defendant Paul Hodgkins was captured on surveillance video inside the U.S. Senate Chamber on January 6, 2021.

    A Florida man who wore a navy blue “Trump 2020” shirt while he carried a Donald Trump flag inside the U.S. Capitol Complex on Jan. 6 in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday pleaded guilty to the single most serious federal crime he faced in a five-count indictment.

    According to court records, Paul Hodgkins, 38, of Tampa, entered the plea in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia before Judge Randolph D. Moss. The judge agreed to a defense request for an “expedited” pre-sentence investigation report and scheduled a sentencing on July 19 at 10:00 a.m.

    “Hodgkins pleaded guilty to one count of obstructing an official proceeding, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, fine of $250,000 or twice the monetary gain or loss of the offense,” federal prosecutors said in a press release. “A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.”

    NPR noted that it’s more likely the defendant will serve 15 to 21 months behind bars.

    Prosecutors described his transgressions this way in a press release announcing the plea deal:

    [Hodgkins] entered the U.S. Capitol building at approximately 2:50 p.m. on Jan. 6. Around 3 p.m., Hodgkins entered the Senate chamber, walked among the desks, and then removed eye goggles. He took a “selfie-style” photograph with his cell phone and walked down the Senate well where, a few feet away, several individuals were shouting, praying and cheering using a bullhorn. Hodgkins walked toward the individuals and remained standing with them while they continued commanding the attention of others. At approximately 3:15 p.m., Hodgkins exited the Senate chamber and the U.S. Capitol Building.

    Federal court records say Hodgkins admitted he was in the capitol when questioned by the FBI but denied knowing the others who were around him:

    According to HODGKINS, he saw other people around him breaking windows, individuals engaged in a knife fight, and other injured individuals, but HODGKINS did not know those individuals or participate in the conduct. Agents showed HODGKINS two photographs, the first photograph was the “selfie”-style photo of him in the Senate well, which was obtained from [a confidential witness]. The second photograph was another photo of HODGKINS on the Senate floor. HODGKINS admitted to the interviewing agents as being the person in the photographs.

    Hodgkins remains out of jail on a personal recognizance bond. He is subject to location monitoring, court records indicate.

    Prosecutors originally charged Hodgkins with thee counts:

    (1) Obstructing or Impeding Any Official Proceeding and Aiding and Abetting;

    (2) Knowingly Entering or Remaining in any Restricted Building or Grounds Without Lawful Authority and Impeding or Disrupting Official Functions; and

    (3) Violent Entry and Disorderly Conduct in Capitol Buildings.

    A grand jury indicted Hodgkins with additional counts:

    (1) Obstruction of an Official Proceeding and Aiding and Abetting;

    (2) Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds;

    (3) Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds;

    (4) Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building; and

    (5) Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building.

    The deal allowed the defendant to evade four criminal charges and allowed prosecutors to secure a conviction on the count which carries the most significant possible sentence.

    The fourth and fifth counts of the indictment were punishable by a fine and up to six months in jail; the second and third counts of the indictment were punishable by a fine and up to a year in jail.

    Hodgkins was not alleged to have used a weapon. Had he done so, and had he been so accused, the punishments would have been much more severe for the counts prosecutors agreed to dismiss in return for the guilty plea.

    Why Trump can't be 'reinstated' as president by August
    gpanetta@businessinsider.com (Grace Panetta,Jake Lahut)

    The notion that Trump will be "reinstated" before Labor Day is gaining traction among QAnon followers.

    Trump has reportedly talked about it with confidants, claiming he'll be reinstated.

    The demonstrably false conspiracy theory can be traced back to MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.

    The latest preposterous conspiracy theory sweeping the extended QAnon world claims that the Supreme Court will reinstate former President Donald Trump before Labor Day weekend, despite the fact that he lost a fair election nearly seven months ago and has been unsuccessful in dozens of court challenges since.

    While the origin of the August-reinstatement theory remains unclear - it certainly did not come from constitutional-law scholarship - the first mention of it to gain significant traction came from Mike Lindell, the founder and CEO of MyPillow and a staunch Trump ally.

    Lindell has been mired in legal trouble over his false claims about voting machines from Dominion Voting Systems. But he has continued to push lies about the 2020 election and appears largely responsible for this latest conspiracy theory's spread across MAGA-friendly media outlets.

    Lindell first predicted that Trump would be reinstated by August on Steve Bannon's "War Room" podcast in March.

    "What I'm talking about, Steve, is what I have been doing since January 9. All of the evidence I have, everything that is going to go before the Supreme Court, and the election of 2020 is going bye-bye," Lindell said, adding that other countries and "communism coming in" had stolen the election.

    Lindell's prediction relies on an assumption that the Supreme Court would be so impressed by his purported evidence of fraud that it would somehow issue a ruling saying Biden won illegitimately and setting a new inauguration date.

    Sidney Powell, a lawyer who's filed several failed election-related lawsuits and pushed outlandish conspiracy theories about hacked voting machines, shared the baseless reinstatement theory at a conference of QAnon supporters in Dallas over the weekend. (Dominion has filed defamation lawsuits against both Lindell and Powell.)

    At the same conference, Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security advisor, went as far as to suggest that the United States should have a military coup, similar to the one in Myanmar, to reinstall Trump.

    The theory has now made it all the way up to Trump. He's been telling allies he thinks he'll be reinstated in August too, The New York Times' Maggie Haberman said on Tuesday.

    August appears to be when Lindell thinks he'll finally have the real evidence that will force the Supreme Court to overturn the election.

    Trump isn't getting reinstated

    Simply put, Lindell and Powell are not telling the truth to their followers.

    On the logistical front, the court will be on a three-month recess starting in late June. While the justices still review petitions, applications, and motions during their recess, it's unrealistic to think the Lindell case would amount to an exception.

    Based on recent history, Lindell's chances don't look good. In December, the high court refused to hear a long-shot, last-ditch lawsuit filed by Ken Paxton, Texas' attorney general, who asked the court to void Biden's victories in four swing states and have GOP-controlled state legislatures appoint electors instead.

    It's unclear what process Lindell thinks the Supreme Court would deploy now, nearly seven months after the election. But as far as the Constitution goes, there's no mechanism for the Supreme Court to overturn a presidential election, in the same way sharks can't grow legs on command and stroll onto land.

    It all goes back to how the Electoral College works. Presidents aren't elected nationwide but state by state, indirectly. When you vote for president, you're not directly electing a president but voting for a slate of electors to vote for the presidential ticket you want.

    Furthermore, states are free to appoint their slates of electors as they choose - they just have to do so by the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. While all 50 states hold elections to appoint their electors, the Constitution doesn't require them to do so. And there's no constitutional right to vote for president.

    Once the electors cast their votes in December and Congress counts those votes, as they did on January 7, it's over.

    After a president is sworn in, the only mechanism to remove them is through impeachment.

    And even if Lindell were to blow the cover off a massive plot to rig the election, Congress could remove Biden only for high crimes and misdemeanors committed in office - not over vague conspiracy theories about foreign governments and the ghost of Hugo Chavez rigging the 2020 election.

    That, too, wouldn't result in Trump being reinstated as president.

    As Trump knows from being impeached twice, the vice president would take over if a president were removed.
