Trump lost both elections by popular vote.

He lost by 3 million the first time and 7 million the second time.

His approval ratings never got above the low 40s.

even just on the face of it you're comparing an incident that killed thousands to one where five died (most due to underlying health issues), where the two groups charged with organising the riot/protest were led by explicit FBI assets, and who the police actually allowed into the building.

What I'm talking about is a degenerate President who thought he could overturn the results of an election by violence to keep himself in power.

    Banana Republicans.

if he wanted to use violence he would've used the military - he voiced concerns about the integrity of the election results. it's ironic that you think this is such a terrible thing to happen to 'democracy' after Hillary did the exact same thing last election, only her friends went a few steps further and spent years using the media to undermine a sitting president with baseless claims that he was 'working for the Russians'.

The goal of the 2016 election wasn't to get the popular vote, it was to get the most electoral votes, and the electoral vote system was designed specifically to maintain democracy. You keep trying with the misdirection and irrelevant spew, though.

Do you mean like what happened in 2020 with Biden winning by what Trump described his 2016 win as a "landslide" amount in the electoral college?

The electoral college is outdated and needs to be done away with. One man, one vote. How can a system that doesn't award the victory to the one getting the most votes be democratic?

The electoral college...when you can"t actually win...cheat! A Game designed for Trump.

    Patriots like democratic rule.

You like rules designed by the elite to maintain the elite in power. You like when voters who have differing opinions from yourself have impediments to their voting rights installed and hiding behind the big lie to justify it.

Are you having any fun yet?

"These radical leftist idiots are soooo easy to shut down. It's pretty much like shooting fish in a barrel. No fun at all!"

Trump and your buddy Hillary had an equal chance of winning. She lost fair and square. Now your cabal has tried to steal the 2020 election, still sour from the butt kicking your ilk took in 2016. Four long years of fake Russian hoaxes and bogus impeachments later, you're still at it. Keep trying, because everything your gang of commie fascist election thieves are trying to do will fail, just like all the other times you've failed.

‘Assault on democracy’: Biden torches Texas voting bill
    By Ben Leonard

President Joe Biden on Saturday laid into a Texas bill adding new voting restrictions, calling it “wrong and un-American.”

“In the 21st century, we should be making it easier, not harder, for every eligible voter to vote,” President Joe Biden said in his statement.

“It’s part of an assault on democracy that we’ve seen far too often this year—and often disproportionately targeting Black and Brown Americans,” Biden said in a statement. “It’s wrong and un-American. In the 21st century, we should be making it easier, not harder, for every eligible voter to vote.”

Texas is the latest in a flurry of states that have seen Republicans push for more restrictive voting laws, often labeled “election integrity” bills by supporters, in the wake of former President Donald Trump’s persistent and baseless claims that the November presidential election was stolen.

The proposed legislation — which passed Texas’ House earlier this month — would restrict Sunday voting, when many Black worshipers vote, bar drive-thru voting and give more access to partisan poll watchers, among other things. The Republican-controlled Senate is expected to pass the legislation, and Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has said he will sign it.

Biden has been sharply critical of Republicans’ “election integrity” legislation, particularly new Georgia voting legislation, which he called 21st-century “Jim Crow.” In his statement Saturday, Biden called for Congress to take action on the “For the People Act,” which has passed the House and would reform ballot access and campaign finance. It would also require states to have two weeks of early voting, among other things. The legislation faces long odds in the Senate amid staunch GOP opposition.

Biden also called on Congress to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which would reinstate Voting Rights Act protections that the Supreme Court took down.

“In the 21st century, we should be making it easier, not harder, for every eligible voter to vote,” Biden said in his statement Saturday. “I continue to call on all Americans, of every party and persuasion, to stand up for our democracy and protect the right to vote and the integrity of our elections.”

Abbott has touted the bill, saying it will make it "easier to vote and harder to cheat."

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) slammed Biden's statement Saturday.

“Like his ‘Neanderthal thinking’ comment on masking protocols, President Biden is wrong, overtly partisan, and increasingly out of touch with reality,” Cornyn tweeted.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has previously praised the legislation, saying it will make elections "more accessible and more secure."

Marc Elias, a prominent Democratic elections lawyer, said Saturday in a tweet that "Texas will be sued" if the bill becomes law.

Ex-RNC Chair Blasts Republicans After They Block Jan. 6 Commission: 'Pathetic Cowards'
    Jason Lemon

Michael Steele, the former chair of the Republican National Committee, condemned fellow Republicans after they successfully blocked the bipartisan January 6 commission from moving forward on Friday, calling the GOP lawmakers "pathetic cowards."

Former RNC chair Michael Steele called Republicans "pathetic cowards" for blocking the January 6 commission from moving forward on Friday.

Senate Republicans blocked the January 6 commission—which aimed to investigate the pro-Trump insurrection targeting the U.S. Capitol—from moving forward on Friday due to the legislative filibuster. Although six Republican senators voted in favor of the commission to proceed, this was not enough to reach the 60 vote threshold required to overcome the filibuster.

"Pathetic cowards," Steele tweeted on Friday, sharing a video of the Senate vote regarding the bipartisan commission.

Like a number of other prominent Republicans, Steele has long vocally opposed former President Donald Trump and his faction of the GOP. Steele served as the chair of the Republican Party from 2009 to 2011.

"This is personal for me, and those two words were just—I don't know. that was the only way I could put it," Steele told MSNBC on Saturday, explaining his frustration with fellow Republicans.

"Look at the members of my team, you know, guys that I have known and worked with over many, many years who once stood for something, once said something that meant a lot and could mean a lot to people, just buckle," Steele lamented.

The former GOP chair took aim at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, and House Minority Leader Keving McCarthy, a California Republican, for opposing the commission.

"There was no leadership there, and that's what that moment called for," Steele said.

"I kind of look at this and just say to myself, 'where do you go from here, what do you say next to the American people?' How do you now come on the other side of this vote or non-vote and say to Brian Sicknick's mother, you know, what? What do you say to her? She walked the halls of our Congress trying to get people to do the right thing, to vote to just find out why her son died," the Trump critic added.

Sicknick was a Capitol Police officer who died amid the violence of the insurrection. His mother had come to the Capitol and implored GOP lawmakers to back the bipartisan January 6 commission, but most did not listen.

"It's not at all clear what new facts or additional investigation yet another commission could actually lay on top of existing efforts by law enforcement and Congress," McConnell said during a Senate floor speech last week.

McCarthy expressed similar opposition to the commission last week as well.

"Given the political misdirections that have marred this process, given the now duplicative and potentially counterproductive nature of this effort, and given the Speaker's shortsighted scope that does not examine interrelated forms of political violence in America, I cannot support this legislation," McCarthy said.

Other prominent Republicans have been critical of the GOP effort to block the commission as well. Republican Representatives Adam Kinzinger of Illinois and Liz Cheney of Wyoming, both of whom voted to impeach Trump following the events of January 6, have been highly critical of House GOP leadership for opposing the commission, as have other GOP lawmakers.

Former New Jersey Governor Thomas Kean, a Republican who chaired the bipartisan 9/11 commission, criticized the GOP decision as well.

"I'm sad. It looks to me right now like the American people might never find out the truth. And we need to know the truth," Kean told PBS NewsHour on Friday.

Mitch McConnell Dubbed 'Spineless McWorm' On NY Daily News Cover – Twitterverse Goes Buggy
    Diane Haithman

Mitch McConnell may find it hard to wiggle out of this one: the New York Daily News has dubbed the Senate Minority Leader "Spineless McWorm" on the cover of its Saturday edition for blocking attempts to form a bipartisan commission to investigate the Jan. 6th insurrection at the Capitol. Nearly 5 months later, 500 people have been charged in the violent attacks as pro-Trump rioters descended to disrupt certification of the 2020 presidential election.

"Mitch and His GOP Cowards KO Riot Probe," the Daily News cover caption read that appeared with a creepy graphic of McConnell's head attached to the body of what appears to be an earthworm emerging from the dirt, which the Daily News posted on Twitter.

The post and pic immediately wormed their way into the hearts of gleeful Tweeters as McConnell quickly became one of Saturday's trending topics. This responder suggests that McConnell may find safety from haters among his co-earthworms (lumbricus terrestris in your crossword puzzle), although another tweeter called the comparison an "affront to worms":

Other comments are predictably less empathetic. One Tomi T. Ahonen suggests that WORM is not only the name of a creature who crawls out onto the sidewalk on rainy days but actually stands for "White Old Republican Male":

This responder felt the urge to not only repeat McConnell's newest nickname but added on for former President Donald Trump, calling him a "malfunctioning android."

The Daily News is no stranger to coming up with animal-inspired nicknames for McConnell, having also called him "Chicken Kiev" for refusing to allow witnesses to testify in the Senate impeachment trial of Donald Trump over alleged Ukraine misconduct. And various sources have compared McConnell's visage to that of a turtle, with the Change.org website demanding that the politician provide proof that he is not, in fact, part of the turtle family.
