its like weird cartoons in chromacolor. sometimes if you think of the cartoon changing to what you want it to do, it will happen but there is a delay and the harder you try to control it, it goes dark and fades out. I think it has to do with you being half a level into REM mode which i think there are three levels.
basicly its a type of hallucination but youre doing it with eyes shut. its on auto pilot as long as you dont control the animation like visuals. almost old disney style.
I heard Joe Rogan talking about this as well. it is interesting to experience first hand. I suppose it can be experience naturally if its a hot day and youre a bit dehydrated or tired as fuck but partly awake. also the room has to be well lit, daytime is best with natural light, or being outside -
