Sometimes I think about how many fucked up people there are inevitably like rapists and serial killers and whatnot, and it seems weird to me that humanity has existed this long without one of those fucked up people actually just pushing that proverbial red button. -

Well they came close in the 80s didn't they..but that one russian dude refused to press the button because he thought it was a false alert, so he went home instead and drank vodka...saving the world one glass at a time.
I think there were a couple of incidents like that, one during the Cuban missile crisis and another in the late 90s early 00s?

I am fairly open minded but whatever. life has purpose and our society has been oppressed during the dark ages which prevented us from advancing 300 years faster in technology. probably would of never had WWII or WWI either.

Sure. I guess that makes it all the more weird. Just the fact that anyone else has 'come close to doing it. You'd think it would've happened by now. But who knows...maybe it has happened and its soon to happen again. -

there is at least 1 or 2 men with the 2 launcher guys that snap the code plates to pull the cards out to verify launch code sequence are not a test simulation. so they wont know if its real or not. it just becomes a surprize. which is why its very tense. you do this over and over, you sit own in these silos with other guys and one day shit just got real.
Also if one cowards out, the code reader team will take place of the guy who probably got a bullet in his head for not taking orders from command.
of course someone on the other side has to read true codes instead of test codes. once true codes are read, shit isnt going to stop.
