    A simple majority in each House of Congress is required to pass statehood legislation, however, in the United States Senate the filibuster requires 60 votes to invoke cloture.

    In DC its very popular. They currently have no representation in congress. They didnt have national guard support on the 6th because of it. Governors can deploy the national guard, but DC didn't have the option and had to request them, which they got denied for when it mattered most.
