I tried using wifi and discovering computers and sharing but nothing would show up on one pc when looked at from another.
Gonna try an ethernet cable although I really dont want to take it out of the packaging.

yes you can do it, but if you wanna get your file out one of your computers just share it wirelessly by a third-party app named wifi file sharing or if you use linux you can run apache server then move them there and download it over your local IP or backup them into a cloud service! hope it works for you

Using a $5 USB stick is just too easy for some people. They much prefer complicating situations and bothering people with dumb questions.

no lol, you just need to turn on SMB, create a share and access one machine from the other in windows explorer via the IP, ie. \\192.168.1.2\files

I actually don't get why he overcomplicates things like this, no way he doesn't have a USB stick, hard drive, phone etc. to copy files over on
it'd make sense if he wanted to learn how things work but he's said in the past he doesn't care

It's a basic function of modern computers to be able to network, but networking two windows computers is often hard. In theory Samba should work though.
Do you have an android phone you can use as an intermediary ftp server? Moving the files physically, using a hard drive or phone as storage, also works.

washing machine water isn't pure either, even after it dries it can leave residue from detergent or dirt or whatever that shorts electronics

Many, many people have reported they dried out their USB stick and it worked just fine.
