Lol anime people are always like "its only 100 episodes". I was mad as fuck watching 5x 22 minute eps of the one I didn't like. -

One Piece is better than LotGH by several orders of magnitude, specially for people new to anime, for the reasons I already stated.
It's totally incomparable, even unedited. -

No actually that's not what the show is about it's a slice of life anime that's self aware about anime culture in the early 2000's. The characters are highschool girls and they are sometimes aware that they are anime highschool girls and say things like "hey I'm a highschool girl shouldn't I behave in this certain way"
It's like a satire of a slice of life anime while also being a slice of life anime. It's not like K-On which is just HURR DURR CUTE GIRL BE CUTE AND SING CUTE. Things of that nature do happen but that's not what the show is entirely about.
Patricia Martin for example is a stereotype of a western girl obsessed with anime. This video is over a decade old and it's a parody of Patricia Martin by a western girl in the mid 2000's. Notice the satire and "extreme" over the top nature, this is easily understood as a joke by anyone thats watched the show. Anyone that hasn't watched Lucky Star thinks these girls are serious and the video makes them angry which makes it funnier to people that get the joke.
This proves that Lucky Star is a culturally significant anime and anyone that doesn't appreciate this and reduces the show to nothing but a dumb cute girl anime is an idiot. Literally reading the cover of a book and saying "That sucks"

2021-03-27 at 7:30 PM UTCSchool is very important in Japanese culture. School and work is basically most of japanese culture, their entire society is based around having a good education and being successful. Lucky Star addresses these issues, for example there is a lot of stress on all the girls for exams. Failure is not an option in their society which is why you get people like hikimoris that completely drop out of society.
The parents aren't even the ones pushing it. It's what happens when you push a capitalist culture on a militarist country, drop experimental nuclear weapons on them and force them to not follow their warrior heritage. They are a samurai culture but instead of war now they engage in global commerce. Japan has more than double the population of my country and they live on a tiny island.
They could easily take anyone over with giant robots and shit. But they don't want to

Lucky star is good but everything you said is exactly the reason it’s a terrible intro to the genre since the majority of the humor assumes you’re aware of the genres tropes and excesses. Like you kind of have to watch kon or something like it to get why lucky star is funny. I know this because it was recommended to me when I had watched like a couple funimation dubs and cowboy bebop and I had no idea what the hell was going on.
Nichijou would be the infinitely better self-aware SoL anime to start out with. -
