The couple was in a state of trance sitting near the bodies of their daughters when the police had reached their home on Sunday.

While the father, Dr V Purushotham Naidu, has reportedly come out of the trance, his wife Padmaja continued to behave strangely.
She was singing and dancing and shouting that the novel coronavirus had not originated in China, but created by the gods to cleanse the “bad elements” in the Kali Yuga. When police took Padmaja to a hospital for Covid-19 test, she refused to give her sample shouting that she herself was novel coronavirus in human form and there was no need for tests.

The couple on Sunday brutally murdered their daughters, Alekhya (27) and Sai Divya (22), in what appeared to be part of occult practice.
Speaking to TOI Madanapalli DSP A Ravi Manoharachari said police and doctors had a tough time completing the medical examination as Padmaja acted strangely claiming that she was a form of Lord Shiva.

The battered and bloodied bodies of the two girls lying in a pool of blood were moved to the government hospital at Madanapalle. Police found several tell-tale marks of religious rituals in the house suggesting that the double murder was related to some superstitious beliefs. The heads of the girls were half tonsured and there were marks of vermillion on them. There were small silver pots in their mouths. Police say the two girls were naked when they were killed but were later draped in red sarees.
