The reality is not everyone can do that. Not everyone can work skilled labor if society is to survive. So why should those people just barely scrape by? I don't think you understand just how bad it is here. You ever been to a tent city? Do you even have those? People can't afford rent even working two jobs sometimes. Nobody should work 60-70h a week and just barely make it. Doesn't matter what work you do. Hard work should be rewarded. -

I guess what I was initially getting at is that in many cases, even unskilled labourers shouldn't be paid at minimum wage. factory work isn't easy and it's insulting to be kept on a state or federally-mandated minimum wage for years working at the same company, but specifically in regards to small businesses they often simply can't afford more.
that aside it's important to have real avenues for advancement, rather than locking people into perpetual minimum wage because they're unable to develop a skill that would help them improve their station... that or chaining them to whatever menial work they can get because they need to service massive debt accrued to get what turned out to be a largely worthless degree (sometimes their own fault, sometimes not). -
