thats exactly why theyre saying that. its basic physiology...for the human body to maintain that degree of excess fat stores is an exponential drain and strain on the bodys resources. joints go bad more readily, the heart goes out, the bone marrow and other micro-fluid sources are over-stressed.
plus no sane, mentally stable male wants to breed a sow. -

Originally posted by aldra surface fleets are over.
with the proliferation of long range hypersonic missiles, they've become far too much of a risk (in terms of cost-benefit) to be used in actual warfare, at least in the way they traditionally were.
that.
also waterborne drones (surface and subsurface) and their mother-ships.
any ship larger than about 100 feet is going to be obsolete while small ships are going to be the future.
also 'arsenal' ships. -

Originally posted by rabbitweed First you say surface fleets are over, then in your last sentence you say they are going to be used differently.
So… they're not over? Would that maybe be a more accurate statement?
it is impossible to remove surface ships/craft. they will be vital. the traditional large-displacement warships are obsolete. -

Originally posted by aldra I think the current trend toward smaller, faster ships is the only way to go but keeping them supplied as a blue-water force is going to be a major problem. they're effective enough as a defensive force as most countries are currently using them but any sort of long distance supply hub is going to be vulnerable to the same problems as expensive strike fleets
thats why i said 'motherships'
same principle as aircraft carriers.
they already have larval submersible motherships the way theyre using SSNs/SSGNs/SSBNs as mother ships for RPVs. -
