I can see them now. A bunch of drugged out and drunks "Oh, Go to LA they have free beach front homes.

an entire convoy of homeless encampment types moving to LA's beach area waiting or their homes and then rioting when they have no more room or money.

they should all move to an old military base no longer used and just put shitloads of cots in the old hangers

The easiest solution to the homeless problem is getting rid of building codes. A favela shanty town is preferable to homelessness, but somehow I don't see gentrified US cities and suburbs being particularly open to the idea of having sprawling miles of poorly constructed but livable homes spring up and drive down property values.

Is it? Maybe you get containment of the poors, but it’s not an Orwellian system where we only care about the outer party and the proles can have their destitute privacy. The panopticon demands a view of everyone, and homelessness and monitorable social programs and projects do more for us there than deregulated sprawling slums. The inner city project is kinda off the ultimate achievement of the surveillance state, it accomplishes both containment of the undesirables while keeping them firmly under control and visible to the state.

This assumes the goal is containment of the poors and not betterment of their lives, which was (perhaps naively; idealistically) my only concern. It also seems to assume that containment is only half of the goal, with control being the other. This is the wrong kind of dystopia. It's... too dystopian. All the fun dystopian fiction at least leaves the poors to their anarchic freedom.

I just want homeless people to be able to build sprawling shanty towns with 0 regard to city ordinance, city planning, or safety. Regulation is strangling the upward mobility of the homeless. We need a wild west 2.0 where the homeless can cut their teeth, earn their fortunes.

Containment of undesirables is a fundamental function of any society. Just in the same way that a dump is the first thing a new city builds, containment of the distasteful but necessary is a fundamental clause of any sufficiently large social contract.

And democracy makes control of any population of voting or potentially voting people a necessary condition for political survival and propagation. Is it any wonder then that containment and control are of central concern to any liberal democracy?

one of the reasons 'liberal democracy' fails is because as a society it only selects for a small number of traits as 'positive', resulting in an imbalance

Sheds are viable domiciles for the homeless, easy to break into, easy to come and go unnoticed. Shed life!!!

Homeless Shelters need to adjust the fundamentals of their operation to more effectively keep the homeless off the streets. These shelters operate on a first-come-first-served basis. So you have to call them every day to try to reserve yourself a cot, and you only get it for a night.

Our system is stacked against the homeless. We provide them the bare minimum required to stay alive and there are virtually no opportunities to re-integrate with society and find a home. People generally dont become homeless because they are lazy, they become homeless because they hit a rough patch of luck, or they're young and stupid and they dont have their life together properly. The homeless should be educated and re-integrated. Teach them how to properly budget themselves. Teach them social skills. Offer guidance on how to cope with the daily 9-5 grind. The slog is real and I couldn't find it in myself to cope with the day-in day-out bullshit. I was never instilled with a strong work ethic, i was a sickly cancer patient as a kid. I didn't have chores, nobody taught me responsibility. Of course when i was faced with the rigors of adult life in the real world i crumbled. Now im on the outside of society, living on the fringes, probably for life or for many years to come at the least. Do i deserve this for being young and stupid and making a mistake? Nobody deserves this.

I lived in the back of my pickup for a few years. I lived in the cab but I was too tall to stretch in the back benchseat without my head pushed into the door. so I bought a crappy aluminum shell for 200 bucks at a pull yard (I prolly got ripped off, but My truck was a Dodge 1500 extended cab and extended bed, unique in length)

It took a while to find one. I found some "Come get it" off of craiglist and went to 4 places but none of them fit. so I went to a junk yard. Winter rolled in. In the bay its cold but not real cold. But inland, Holy shit. it became a fridge. and then I went to some boat and camper store and bought a plug in charger (older one. didn't last but two hours of TV time on a 19 inch led tv I had) and I bought shitloads of burlaps for 5 bucks a piece. they make OK blankets but I used them underneath. Like 4 of them and a comforter and then 2 blankets with a comforter on top. I still had to layer and wore a hoody on top and used the hood to block out the lights in the car garage I parked it at.

slept for years for free and then the BART station (Its like a subway system) charged and you had to by a train ticket to pay for your parking inside the station so no one would just pay and park and walk off.
But I got a job in the city and took the trian in. started at 50 cents and worked to 3 dollars by the time I found a place to crash (2 and a half years later). never went back to that kind of living but I know I can if I have to. Went from that, to an office someone rented half of to me near the University of Cal and then I rented my own office for a year (cheap) and crashed there and showered downstairs. but some rich guy bought the building to turn into a AirBnB so i left. lived in my then Van for a bit. that fucker was decent.

I got an all wheel drive crossover now. back seat folds down. about 6 feet in length. I tried it out. i could put an air matress in it and deliver food for a living. no bills (someday, I hope.. Someday soon)

and umm buy a lot of land and build a cellar where I'll section off into a bedroom, a guest room, an office, a kitchen where I'll use cold stove cooking (induction) and have a stairway to the surface where they'll be a shed on top and I'll put a toilet in there and lead it to a septic tank and I'll hide from the world and stream conspiracy facts and maybe run a conspiracy pirate radio station but put the tower somewhere or have Luigi drive around in it like that movie "Pump Up The Volume" with Christian Slater

FUCK YAH "I can be that anonymous nerd"-Christian Slater

Master Blaster likes this song I think
